When my 2006 era PC gasped its last, time for a new one. Dual Core 2.8 Ghz, PCI-E slot. I have a donated 7900 GT 256 mb, so I put it in and reinstalled 1946 DVD, patched to 4.08m, then added UI 1.1. I also picked up an X-52 stick and throttle, woo hoo!

It runs like a dream...BUT....

When I hit fly, I see the cockpit view for less than a second, then the screen breaks up into horizontal lines. like bars of static. The plane is still flying...I hit crtl-alt-del, get to the desktop, end task manager and click the IL2 "button" on the taskbar. The sim pops back up and I am flying, if I have not crashed the plane while tasking out. What could be the cause? I have the latest drivers.

AND...

The X52 is sweet, but about half the keyboard commands do not seem to work, F2, F1, "a", lots of commands either do not work or I have to mash the key several times.

Setting up the x52 is a pain. It loads the SST app with windows and I load an IL2 profile...it does not seem to work. The manual is a bit basic, I need some sort of X52 noob guide.

Did you uninstall and clean your old graphics drivers before installing the new card?

It's a fresh install of XP Home on a brand-new system, no previous drivers.

Hey, wait a sec, it's also doing it on Quake 4, when you first load a level it breaks up till you task out and back in.

Graphics card seated firmly in it's slot? Clean heatsink on the graphics card or no card blocking airflow to it? Get drivers installed for it?

Roger, roger and roger. Wait, there are two power connectors coming from the video card, should I plug both of them in?? It does sorta feel like overheating...

Plugged in both pwer cords, same issue.

I notice the video card fan seems to run slowly most of the time, when I launch the game it spins up, when I launch the game, it spins down for a few seconds, then the glitch starts.

Maybe I need the fan to run at the higher speed all the time? Is there a way to do that?

I have the same card and was starting to get problems like yours then i found a program called Riva Tuner which allowed me to adjust the video card fan speed,haven't had a problem since,hope that helps.

For the X52 find the latest beta drivers from the saitek site and try those, I haven't had any problems at all with them - and all the keyboard keys should be programmable in the software afaik. I waited several days for them to activate my account so I could actually get to the right part of the forum... so I ended up guessing a log on (first guess!) logon name 'test' and password 'test' 8) it took them over a week to activate my account.

As for the x52, I'm at a bit of a loss. I'll try to set it up via the hotas and controls in il2 itself, but havent a clue how to set up modes or anything.

I click on the systray icon, load the profile editor, load an il2 profile, then what? Do I shut down the editor, leave it running, what?? I thought there would be better documentation.

How old is it, and do you have another to try? These things degrade over time, and can cause all manner of problems especially as they come under load. A decent quality PSU is one of the most important requirements for system stability.

It could very well be the PSU. 500 watts really is not very much power for modern computers and generic PSU's are notorious for not being capable of supplying their rated power. I would suggest installing a high quality PSU of 650 watts or greater. 650 sounds like a lot, but it keeps the PSU from having to supply its maximum rated power, making the PSU run cooler, last longer, and can improve system stability.

It's a brand new PSU. There is not much plugged into it right now.

I think I'll pick up a new video card eventually, that might fix it. The new rig exhausted my budget, even at 400$.
