7900GT and X-52 Hassles

Yup, I'm almost sure it's the fan pausing that causes the video to crash.

Riva tuner is a terrifying piece of software, though, setting fan speed is buried in there somewhere I'm sure. I dont want to hose my system!

Hi,

wanting to give you some hope here.

I have a 7900gt 256mb, like yours, its a very good piece of kit, please take into account that there are better cards out there but you are lucky to have this, it could be a lot worse, do not worry.

I had artefacts before, ie 2 yrs ago, and its all down to finding the right balance. I do not use river tuner because i found the 'right balance' using the nvidia software.

there are a few things that you can do can do to get the most out of it:

1. stable driver, i will post mine when i get home if your intrested, i've gone through the whole lot!
2. right confi - improved thanks to BBM guide in this forum, we can never thank him enough for this.
3. Stable yet excellent settings in your nvidia control panel withh no jaggies.
4. Proper use of dual core, ensuring everything runs on 1 core & il2 on the other.
5. Stable in game settings to compromise between your system & playabilty.

If you are struggling & you are willing to go through some tedious work with me I offer to assist & get your system kicking ass, this might involve a t/s meeting in case we stumble against an obstacle.

So if you want to optimise to a very good playable setting let me know, we can get all this done this saturday afternoon if you so wish.

I also have an x52 & will assist with this, its very simple!

Let me know.

IMHO I reckon the cards screwed - you mention you had it donated - from where? 500W should run it no probs and black lines are a sure sign somethings wrong with the card! Had same issue years back with an old Ti card bought from EBay, it was fried!

Thanks but I work all bleedin' weekend. I'm going to re-donate the card and pick up an 8800 or something.

On the x52 issue. Leave the profiler running after activating your profile. The beta profiling software is really quite user friendly - you should have a drop down box in the top right for each mode: Mode 1, mode 1+pinkie switch etc. in the box for the correct button and mode, input which key press you want it to emulate and, done 8)

The 7900 series have a physical error built into the memory. The only way to get around it is to overclock the memory using nTune or whatever other programs let you do so. It doesn't even matter if you barely bump up the clockspeed, as long as its not the default setting it works just fine.
