Hey everybody. I've been lurking and downloading and poring over this site for a couple of weeks now. Thanks to everyone for their work that has made Il-2 continue to be great. It's the only game on my computer now.
I have an issue that some of you might be able to clarify or maybe even correct. I hope so.
One of my favorite all-time-planes is the P-38--I like the 20mm in the nose and the impact it has combined with the 4 .5 Brownings. In a lot of situations I like to fire the 20mm by itself--ground targets, etc.
But for some reason the wav file associated with the 20mm in the P-38, when using cockpit view, is all wrong. It sounds like a machine gun. In exterior view, the gun sounds right--producing a thump-thump-thump for each shell fired. Interior, firing the 20 by itself, it sounds too fast. As if the mg-64_25i wav it is supposed to be using is sped up, or it is using the wrong wav file altogether. I have installed the sound mod, tried mods for the weapon sounds. I've even searched the web and found my own 20 mm sounds and replaced the stock wav files. I tried, without knowing what I was doing, to edit the Hispano MkI prs file to see if that fixed it, but it didn't. The problem doesn't seem to be with the Hispano prs file, which apparently works for other planes. Spitfire in-cockpit cannons sound fine. Nor with the wav files which work for other planes. Apparently the P-38 as it exists on my computer is using the wrong file to represent the in-cockpit sound of the lone 20mm cannon.
And I don't have a clue where to begin to look to correct it.
I've searched this site at length and was surprised that I could find no one else who remarked on this problem.
Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated.
Yours truly,
Nodlew
