Since the PBN did not have flaps in IL2, Could you make the floats work on those and have landing gear work normal? I know the ai may want to use flaps though, just thinking.
That could work for the animation the lowering of either or, but what the game classes it as, and how that works is another kettle of fish altogether - its the reason why we don't have a amphib Cat already you see...
I see, I hope he can make it work somehow.
Not knowing anything about it at all, I am wondering if the class file could be programmed to be influenced by the gear being extended or retracted?? Does it have something to do with the collision model? How does the game deal with changing the collision model for planes on the deck of a carrier versus when they are airborne? It definitely has something to do with when they are in contact with the deck.
Thank you for your intrest, but i am i need of a skinner, and someone who can do the Flight Model, as these i am not capable of doing myself(particularly the programing) please PM me if you would like to assist. The damage model is almost done, now to work on the LODs.
The PBN/PBY in IL-2 doesn't have flaps, because the PBN/PBY didn't have flaps.
Great , i love floatplanes , good luck for your work and thanks !
About the problem of making this plane amphibious : I have noticed a strange bug in The Slot v1.3 that migh help in finding a good compromise : The US Airfield at Ondonga (New Georgia, NW of Munda) has a water 'runway' for seaplanes, but it is much too short, and when you assign a PBN Nomad to use that runway, the plane will spawn or end its landing run in the middle of the dirt runway for ground based planes.
It doesn't seem to do any damage to the airframe when the AI does it. The transition between water and solid earth is smooth and without bumps.
I wonder if the same could be done for other pacific airfields, to simulate landing for amphibous seaplanes. I reckon at least half of the 'runway' stilll needs to be water though.
To get back on topic : This is a very promising project ! We definitely need more PBY variants, and this is one of the most interesting. Can't wait to fly it over the Solomons !
Cheers

The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) operated Catalinas as night raiders in the southwest Pacific during WW2. They attacked Japanese ship convoys & laid mines in harbours to tie-up shipping. I hope the loadout includes some sort of mine ordinance (is there such a mod?).
