thera are some my little work about wind in Il2:
!there is modification wind-mod's of Fireballs and Tracer!

in this mod there are some new fiches:
-windgust's simply depends on altitude: gust=(1000-alt)/1000*gust at sea level
example: if gust at sea=20m/s,at 500m it will be 10m/s,and at 1000m gust=0m/s
- if turbulanse=1 it plane will have small constast vibrations
from 0 to 10000m. IMHO it simulate vibrations of aircraft+any small turbulence.
- if turbulance=2-6, effects will be for 450m.
-wind depend's by altitude by special law
-remake widgust-it is randome gust's
- thermal on summer maps till 10 to 16 o'clock

installation: just copy file's in your mod folder.

To set the parameters, after you've created a mission open up the mission file (.mis) with a text editor such as Notepad, and add a [Weather] section at the end. It would look something like:

[Weather]
WindVelocity 10
WindDirection 45
WindTop 1800
WindTurbulence 4
WindGust 5

Parameter Descriptions:

WindVelocity: This is the windspeed measured in METERS PER SECOND. This parameter must be a number between 0 and 70. For reference, 1 MPS equals 1.9 knots, 2.2 mph, or 3.6 kmh. There are all sorts of converter websites you can use to convert knots, mph, or kmh to mps. Here's one I use: http://www.srh.noaa.gov/elp/wxcalc/windconvert.shtml

WindDirection: This is measured in DEGREES and sets the direction the wind is coming FROM. Must be a number between 0 and 359.

WindTop: This is measured in METERS and is the altitude at which the wind disappears. This parameter must be a number between 500 and 10000.

WindGust: ..... *
*This must be a number between 0 and 20. It's an actual measure of the speed of the gusts,m/s.if altitude more then 1km,gust's will be=0.

WindTurbulence: Like the WindGust parameter, this must be a number between 0 and 6, equating to the turbulence you would get in the seven types of weather in the FMB. Without the mod the best three weather conditions (Clear, Good, and Hazy) have no turbulence, likewise with this mod, WindTurbulence values of 0, 1*, and 2 have no effect. To experience some turbulence you must set the value to 3, 4, 5, or 6.
* windturbulance=1 => small vibrations to 10km altitude

Some notes:

- At full stop on the ground the wind has no effect on your aircraft. As you increase your speed while on the ground the wind will have more and more effect. At 40 MPS ( 144 kmh, 88 mph, 79 knots) the wind will have full effect. The reverse is true as you slow down on the ground. The wind will have full effect anytime you are airborne, regardless of your aircraft's speed. Depending on wind direction, this may cause your indicated airspeed to be not quite accurate while you're on the ground. (I did it this way, because the wind acts strangely on aircraft on the ground, making it very difficult to taxi with much wind blowing.)

- After adding a [Weather] section to a mission file, if you later edit and save the mission in the FMB, the Weather section will go away. You'll have to manually add it again with Notepad.

In the Russian download site, there are 2 files. One is for an .exe file, windset.exe - just before I start clicking on exe files without knowing what they are supposed to do -could you give some explanation what this one does?

The mod itself in the older version i found very useful, so I'm curious what the windset.exe does

Me too, if I remember correctly when the wind mod first came out there was some batch files around that appended the weather criteria to .mis files automatically, wouldn't mind betting this will do the same sort of thing, will wait for clarification before I going runnning the WeatherSet.exe though :wink: :lol:

Here it is, didn’t tried in the game yet, but no problems with starting and opening.

I think that he is too modest. Seems that ZloyPetrushkO orTracer? actually made wind generator.

in this post i try to give some more information about this mod,utility and also upload checkmission+mod in other place.

in the first-about history of this mode:
firstly,Tracer made v4 of this mode and utility Weatherset.exe in this post:

then, we have some discussion in thread,and in this post i upload new version 4.1,which i made.

then i go to this forum,and i found only v3 version of wind mode.
so, i post this theme,because i think that new version is much better Smile
in the future i plan made turbulance also in cloud's. because in real there is very strong turbulance in cloud.

in mission checkgust1k.mis you cal see how gusts depend on alttitude.
in mission checkturb1.mis you can see how work turbulence=1
in next mission you can see effects of turbulence 2-6 Smile

now i try to tell about windset.exe
this small programm was made by Tracer.
this utility can modify mission's+briefing's on nedeed weather.
you can also set parametres of weather,and programm update files by randome weather in this parametres.
utility cam modify *.mis files in the folder,and all *.mis files in folders,which are in general folder.
so you can modify many companies at 1 time Smile

This looks pretty awesome, after having had a quick look at it!
So, no more having to edit each .mis file individually? Awesome! Big Grin

Oh, i have one small issue, please ignore it if you want, but maybe can fix for a next release?
It is the spelling in the program window, as in the screenshot posted by Avala: it says 'Wing Set', -----it should be 'Wind Set'?
It will bother me a bit, but i can live with it... :wink:

I've just spent some time testing this new version of WindConfig. Zloy has made some interesting and well-done changes to the gust and turbulence effects in the wind. Give it a try and let him know what you think.
