New USN carrier skins (under repair)
#1

Hello, I have made edits to the skins of the carriers Lexington, Saratoga, the US Generic CV, and the Intrepid.

Sorry for the large image sizes, I'll see what I can do to slim them down a bit.

Lexington:

Saratoga:

Known issue for Sara: black box on the fantail, working on removing that.

US CV Generic:

Intrepid:
(removed number, but outline still needs removal)

It is actually historical. The USN painted their CV's a medium blue to help them blend into the ocean. It made them harder targets for Vals and Judys.

Straswa, I'm trying to do the same as u do, skinning shiptextures but so far no luck,is it correct that u have to change/convert the 'skin1o.tgb'file into a'psp'file [photoshop],... if so how can I convert this psd file again into a tgb file?

KG64_cnopicilin correct me when I'm wrong , but ..for example opening in shipstextures , 'map 'carier0, u can find
3 tga files and one tgb file ; skin1o.tga
skin1o.tgb
skin1p.tga
skin1q.tga

afther mistakingly editing skin1o.tga I found out that this wasn't the file that triggerd the new
texture, swapping the skin1o.tgb files of different shippacks did the trick! so I took the skin1o.tgb,
and converted it to a tga, converted this one to a photoshop psd file, edit it and got now the problem
that I can't convert it into a tgb file....sure mayby i'm doing stupid so correct me when i'm wrong, coz
i'm dying to get my hands on the cariers ,the default ones are dull!!

Well, what I did was convert the files from tgb into tga, that allowed me to open them in Photoshop for editing.

As far as I know, you only need the tga files. Then again, I'm still new to skinning and could wrong on this.

Sorry for the slow loading images from tinypic. I'll see what I can do to make them load up faster for you. I'll try reloading them with another image hosting site.

Thanks for the replies, I too was disatisfied with the stock US carriers. I might venture into IJN, we'll see. Smile

Sorry for the confusion. With the new tga file all set and edited how I wanted, I simply placed the needed tga files into a new folder, which would evetually go into the mods folder.

In the mods folder, it goes like this:
Example:
USSLexingtonCV2 folder -> 3do -> Ships -> USSLexingtonCV2(new folder, place tga files here)

I hope that helps you, and good luck with your ship skins!

Looks nice, but I think the deck blue looks too bright. Decks were painted Deck Blue 20-B, which is very close to FS 35042. Areas of high traffic such as the trap area would have worn away the paint, leaving bare wood showing.

Thanks for the feedback. I do plan to keep working on the skins to make them better.

Thanks for the replies guys, when the DL links are approved I will put them up here for your viewing pleasure.
