Hello everyone
Can i pick your brains over this? I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of Hurricane tank busters and tempest operations and tactics in North Africa? I plan to make a Libya Hurri and Tempest campaign, but the AI doesn't work very well, ( it circles for two minutes before reattackintg). I suppose what i'm saying is does anyone know of tankbusting operations involving single planes at a time?
Sorry if all that was a bit confusing

PS thanks in advance

Tempests never operated in north africa in WW2.
TEAM PACIFIC
Tempests were not available during African campaign. Even the Typhoon was not ready yet. First use was in normandy.
To answer the second part, If attacking aircraft were facing lots of defensive fire they would split up and attack from differant angles to split up the defensive fire
Hi,
at last three Typhoon Mk. IB were transfered to the Middle East during April of 1943 (RAAF No. 451 Squadron at El Daba). These Typhoons were modified with tropical air filters positioned just to the rear of the radiator. Their pilots were very enthusiastic about Tiffy
Sorry I know that, i jusy mixed up my words a bit. I meant tankbusting in general, but specifically the Hurri mk D in North Africa, and the tempest anywhere.
Freewillige - thanks for the reply. My problem is this - the AI in IL2 is terrible, if i order my wingmen to attack, they circle for 10 minutes, make a single run, then circle etc etc
I want to make a historically based campaign, but I dont want to use AI wingmen for the above mentioned reasons, so I was looking for someone who could tell me the tactics as in four ship, low level, single passes etc
Again,. sorry for the misunderstanding ( my fault)

the tactics used where small squadrons, they would circle the columns and split up in a figure 8 pattern and hit from behind as much as possible. at various degrees 25 to 45...
usually 2 would cover while one would make there runs.
ah thanks a lot
Just before i do that, is it a permanent thing or can i switch it on/off
Thankyou very much
That's great thanks very much
One more thing
This is probably my bad flyuing, but in the Hurri mk D, i find it hard, if not impossible to destroy some of the bigger panzers and main battle tanks, no matter how many cannon rounds i mput into them. Does Il2 model damage zones for ground vehicles? ie am I attackling from the wrongh angle???
True the rear end of the Panzer was its only weak point,,but as far as IL2 is concerned this isn't the
case,I have never been able to damage a Panzer with any kind of gun fire in IL2.
In reality a side on attack should have a damage effect too.. Tracks and running gear were a prime area to hit to immobilise a tank for infantry hand held weapons, let alone a fighter bomber.
