Special Request: Italian Air Force Fighters Campaign
#1

So, yeah, could it happen to see an entire career going around the entire war from the moment Italy declared war to the end of the war for Italy when Italy itself was invaded and Mussolini kicked out of office in 1943 ??

Getting to fly in the career with G-50, MC-200, CR-42, MC-202, and MC-205.

We'd get even more action with the Mediterannean Map one more time.

At least I'd love to see this happen. 8)

Can anyone here do it please ??

I'm all for it, though I'm especially interested in a historical static campaign for the MC.202 and 205. I've played the excellent "Italy Stranghold" series, but they're suffering from the lack of enough Italian aircraft and the incorrect map.
A Mediterrenean / Malta map , with some escort mission in the Folgore (with the new Cant Z.1001, and hopefully the Sm.79) would be great. And I still can't wait for a late-war ANR campaign with the G.55 Centauro against the 15th USAAF...

Tanti augiri agli italiani! Spero che presto vedremo una campagna per i cacciatori di Macchi! Big Grin

Well, as it happens last week I started on a series of campaigns, designed to fit together, in order to portray the Italian Airforce in WW2, from 1940 to 1945!

What has prompted me to do it, is the fact that we now have a number of VERY good maps that can be used or this purpose! (And that all Italian campaigns around - and many are really good - almost to a man are stuck to the pre-MOD maps, using the fantasy sand-coast map, the tiny mountain map etc.) Also: we now have the fabolous new Cant Z1007, and don't have to fly around escorting SB's any more...

I have completed the first campaign, the war against France in june 1940, using zips lovely Alpen West map: there you getto fly the CR.42 against MS.406's and Curtiss Hawks - over the Alps! That can be tough, believe me.

Right now I am working on the East African Campaign in August-September 1940, using Kapteenis East Africa map. And the next step is of course the Italian part in the Battle for Britain, where you will fly in CR.42's (or possibly G.50's) over Cannons (old) Channel map - I've already done some populating there.

And I'm always on the look-out for playtesters: if there is anyone out there willing to have a go, just PM me!

I'll sure expect good news out of this, also, doing escorts jobs for a bunch of CANT-Z1007 would be really great, there's also the siege of Malta from the Italian point of view that could be fun to play with.

Maintaining a Blockade in Malta while bombing the place, attacking Malta Convoys, protecting Afrika Korps supply and troops convoys.

There's even a Battle of El-Alamein that could be made, unfortunately, my current computer is too weak for doing the job, and a new map for El-Alamein would be nice, from Libya all the way to the Suez Channel. Could be something great.

!

So, where can we download it ?? Big Grin

EDIT: Almost forgot, I think I still have that mission about the Taranto Incident somewhere, but since we didn't have a Swordfish, I used Avengers, I also had to use Lexington class Aircraft-Carriers for the job, and it's a sneak attack during the night.

Maybe I should really upload it at some point. Also depends which type you'd like to fly with, escort fighters or Torpedo-Bombers at night ??

Here is a global Italian campaign:

Of course, it was created a long time ago when there were no suitable maps, but I think it is still worth playing...

And I have also a small contribution - an Italian campaign in Abyssinia that covers an early stage in Regia Aeronautica's history:

I am working in a "conversion" of my CANT Z.1007 campaign into a fighter one, totally re-editing 6-7 missions (i.e. I will delete some escorting missions for intercepting Liberators).

Yes, I have played Aces of the Italian Empire, and it's *really* good. The guy who did it made the best he could within the narrow confines of the standard maps. But you grow awfully bored of that fantasy Sand map...

My plans are as follows (mind you, this can take some time):

1. Invasion of France 1940 - CR.42 - Zips Alpen map (BEING PLAYTESTED!)
2. Invasion of East Africa 1940 - CR.42 - Kapteenis East Africa map (WIP)
3. Battle of Britain 1940 - CR.42 / G.50 - Cannons Channel map (the old version) (WIP)
4. Invasion of Greece 1941 - Fiat G.50 - vol Italy-Africa-Greece map
5. Libya 1941 - Fiat G.50 - The Libya NE map
6. Invasion of the Soviet Union 1941 - Macchi 200 - Bessarabia + Kiev map + Lvov map
7. Assault on Malta 1942 - Macchi 200 - Mrz Malta map
8. Stalingrad campaign 1942 - Macchi 202 Stalingrad map
9. Libya 1943 - Macchi 202 - The Libya NE map
10. Tunisia 1943 - Macchi 205 - Hope to use Mrz's upcoming Central Med map here
11. Sicily 1943 - Macchi 205 - Mrz Malta map
12. Battle for mainland Italy 1943-44 - Macchi 205 - Haven't decided on the map yet
13. Battle for Northern Italy 1944-45 - Bf 109G - Back to zips Alpen map!

Ambitious, I know, and it's quite possible that I won't pull it through. :? But I know, from building the equally ambitious "Raging Eagles" campaign, covering the JAAF in war from 1938-1945, that the trick is to split it it up in not too big segments. And have fun while you do it!

All assistance given - not least when it comes to playtesting - is of course appreciated

Below are some screenies from the two first campaigns: France 1940 and East Africa 1940:

I know about it, I tried to install it but so far I failed to make it work, I'm just a complete noob when it comes to computers, but I should've asked for help, so can you tell me what I'm just missing on this one ??

EDIT: I just couldn't install either of them two, somehow they don't show up anywhere in the careers, I did try Germany instead of Italy but it didn't work either.

EDIT: Sorry, I managed to install Aces of Italy and it looks really like something, I'll let you know how Abissinia goes on the install

It should be OK if you read the ReadMe. But you need some MODs to get my campaign working. (All info in the ReadMe.) If you don't succeed for the first time, try, try, try again. And be sure you copied and pasted all the required files in the place where they should be.

"Raging Eagles" is one of the best I've played, even though I only managed to finish part III. And I've played the stand-alone New Guinea 1943 section three times. The Ki-61 is just lovely... Big Grin

The new campaign looks great. It looks to me that it'll go nicely with the Cant Z.1001 mega-campaign.

Poltava, This is an ambitious project but certainly will be a unique one. It will be good to see the new maps used. I'm so thankful we are able to make new maps now!
Good luck with this project and I know you'll enjoy building it.

I think some of you could also depict Italian involvement in Abyssinia in 1935-36 (feel free to use my "Vado in Abissinia") or Italian participation in the Spanish Civil War (hope we will have enough maps soon).

(So we could have a global Italian campaign similar to the "Aces of the Italian Empire".)

Sorry, I didn't found the ReadMe file in the Abbysinia Campaign, I also tried even more to make it work but I never managed to get it up and running. Sad

The only thing I found for a ReadMe was just a small NotePad that wasn't of any help. Sad

So, now I need help on this one.

Poltava,

I think that it is an excellent idea. Just let me know if you need a hand. I had some material for the Abyssinia campaign. For the latest period of the war you can also have a look at the Gothic line campaign (using an adaptation of the Slovakia map). I also know that there are Anzio and Salerno maps on the making and an excellent North Africa template (very realistic) but maybe a little bit too heavy I can try to dig it out.
