Tarmac Sounds... Crickets and other Wildlife?!
#1

While sitting on the tarmac waiting for takeoff, I hear what sounds like "night/jungle" sounds at all hours of the day and location. Sounds likes crickets chirping and other wildlife along with other sounds heard while on the ground.

This is great if I was sitting on the tarmac at Henderson Field at night with the canopy open, but I hear these sounds everywhere regardless if the canopy is open or not. Once I takeoff and cross about 500 ft the sounds go away. They reappear when I am back at base and cut off the engine.

Anyone else familiar with these sounds while awaiting takeoff? Not sure which mod they are a part of, but I do not think they are in a vanilla install.

yes i have them too.

these sounds are takeoff/landing sounds.

you can activate/deactivate them in your game options.

alternatively, you can download the newest bombbay door mod, where you can activate/deactivate it ingame (for further informations read readme)

Interesting I know that those sounds are in IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\samples\Sounds but I've never heard them in game or figured out what triggers them, maybe someone here can enlighten us

I figured it out. In the config ini file there are these lines under [sounds]

MusState.takeoff=0
MusState.inflight=1
MusState.crash=1
MusFlags.play=1

They basically enable/disable "music" during which ever event period the game state is in. I was heading cricket and the jungle sounds because in samples/Music/TakeOff/ my configuration had the airbaseJAPAN.wav in it. When I set MusState.takeoff=0 as seen above, it killed that sound.

Now I only hear the sounds of the action game as compared to "music" when in the cockpit.

enjoy!

You can activate those sound samples....airbase, siren, etc.
by adding lines to your mission file
the sounds play during the briefing screen...single or co-op missions

for example...

[MAIN]
briefSound samples/sounds/CarrierJAPAN1.wav

as you can see the line is added right after the [Main} ...and above the map name

this will be lost from the mis file if you load it into the FMB....so you'll have to re-insert it.

Did you download and install my Russian female voice addon from M4T?

It came with a bonus sound sample that plays when you first spawn. It has the sound of birds singing etc and is timed so that by the time your engine comes on it switched to radio static and a few distant mic clicks. Shouold be in the Take Off folder. Once you climb out from base, the sample automatically goes to the In Flight folder and plays the first one it finds in there.
