U.I. 1.2 needed badly
#1

Hi everybody, today i had to reinstall Il-2 1946, due to some bad failure, that caused me 60% CTD unfixable, when i started to reinstall everything i ended up in the task of another reinstall while i'm writing this, as i have installed every mod that is released i have thousand of folders and changed .ini files.

That make me think that we are in time for a new UI version adding all the mods that came after the release of the 1.1 version, and another thing i found out trying to fix the 60% issue was that in the Main files folder, and mods folder and other folder so many files are repeated causing long times of loading.

What do you think guys it's time to a new U.I. version???

I agree with you Potenz, reinstalling about 100 mods is no fun at all :x

I'm all for it. I find I am having lock ups during mission transfers in servers after the mission starts to load. When no mods are selcted, there is no problem.

Definately think it's time for UI 1.2, especially with the numerous bugs reported in 1.1 and the many fixes to the popular mods (109 pits, effects) and new aircraft that have become available since 1.1's release.

And saying that, I'm redownloading UI1.1.1 now since my IL-2 install has died in the butt and will have to go through the same pain as you Potenz Tongue

I agree. But compliling these mods is a big task. and then imagine how long it will take to Dl.

... i wouldn't say badly needed , heck i don't need it at all ... but i will have it as separated installation for map mods testing purpose ( like i have UI 1.11 now .... which works ok here )

Since i've switched to Win7 recently and being reading about difficulty some users have with AAA UI 1.11 installation i've installed it from scratch ( 1946 + 4.08 + UI 1.1 + UI 1.11 patch) ...and it all went without problems .

My main game installation is still UI 1.0 ( as mod base) and with regular backup copies of my MODS folder ( one DVD per mounth) re-installation is a peace of cake . I do have "double" folders and files in "FILES" and in "MODS" folder ( using Jaffa sounds placed in MODS folder) but didn't notice much increase of game loading time ( game loads one file only once ... double ones gets ignored anyway ) .

In my personal opinion ( and seeing what got included in UI 1.1) reasons for new versions of UI's aren't amount of new mods but rather introduction of some new online mods ( server...).... so if something like that comes along next UI will be here . Again that's just my opinion .

Every week i do a winrar backup with 3 folders: i retire paintchemes and MODs from IL-2 Stumovik 1946 and compact the 3 folders and copy this folders for 3HDs... backup worth!

MOD is LIFE!!

backup, backup, backup....

remember, you are messing with the game so some risk is involved.

I don't think a new UI is needed badly. I have all set and running well, do not experience problems.
Others seem to have a lot of CTD issues, I do not experience this at all.
I have about every beta plane that is out there, every map, every object....

just not 6DOf or such "contraptions"... Wink

well, i've had more than my fair share of issues, and most of them seem to be more unusual than the regular CTD's etc. I have backups, and backups of backups, but invariably the time comes when i have to do a reinstall.
had this just 2 days ago, reinstalled from fresh, after my game just refused to start. so, i follow the regular rinstalling of UI1.1, and invariably get stuck at the same point. i've come to dread this part of it more than any other modding. i use mouse 6dof - or, at least, want to - but EVERY time i have reinstall, the mouse 6dof doesn't work. EVERY time i install the correct files for it in the way that worked for me the previous time, and EVERY time the old way doesn't work for the new install. I still see people asking how to get it to work in that thread.
Despite all this, i don't believe it is necessary for a UI1.2......what we do need, are more concise, definitive (a la Cirx tutorials) instructions on how to install each different version properly.
In my case, i want to use the mouse 6dof. I'm very nervous of using the VersionSwitcher that comes with the UI, but i don't see any other way of trying to get the mouse 6dof to work.
so far all i get is a stuttering screen in-cockpit......this is the experience i'm met with on each new install, and it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth....i follow instructions to the t, and listen to advice, and each time so far, nothing has worked. UI1.1 just doesn't want to play nice.
Maybe some clear instructions on which version batch files to use for which setup, and specifically, which NOT to use with which setup, because it seems to me that if you choose the wrong option initially, that's it, your game is buggered before you even get started...
Similar to zo, i've got a UI1.0 version that has survived from day 1 of the modding. Unbelievably, this version has accumulated mods from all corners of the globe, and works fantastically, barring for the fact that i can't update with AC installer, as it has other non-AAA planes.
This is why i keep trying to get a proper AAA mods only UI1.1 version running, and each time without fail it has just stopped working for NO APPARENT REASON.
Here i sit with the latest attempt, and am not really even wanting to post AGAIN with the same plea for help on how to get my mouse 6dof working.....AGAIN....

Troubles and hassles aside, i'd rather be dealing with these kind of problems than to be where we were before the mods became a reality, twiddling our collective thumbs over at another site, hoping that Oleg might release a new patch with at least one new map and maybe even a new AI-only plane by christmas... Big Grin
I'm committed to this site and all the goodness that happens here, so even though i'm having all these hassles, i can't think of any place i'd rather be... 8)

I have recently done a new installation with UI 1.1 just to become CRT2 compatible and to be able to use online servers again. The switcher facility to move between different versions works really well. So far I have had no problems with it. My base installation includes MAT Manager which was installed into the unmodded version.

I did find duplication of some files in root/files and root/MODS/STD, so I just moved everything into MODS/STD to cut out duplicates.

I updated to latest Aircraft Installer 3.8 and have installed various new mod aircraft with no effect on CRT2 compatibility. I guess this is only affected if you alter files for aircraft included in UI 1.1.

My rule for new mods is always do a manual install so that you know precisely which files are being overwritten. Doing it this way its a long time since I had a problem. I now prefix all new mods in the MODS folder with xxx so that I know which were not included in 1.1

The Cirx tutorials provide a great guide on how to do manual installations for those who have never done it. Its not very difficult once you know what to do.

many people awaits new UI because it is a standard for many online servers and unless new aircrafts are not in the UI they won't be n those servers either.

So I'm really looking for new UI because of the Spitfire XIV.
