IL-2 and Windows Vista???
#1

Hello;

If this has been discussed I am sorry for the re-posting then.

I just bought (Friday June 10/09) a Acer Aspire Laptop:

CPU: AMD Athlon 64x2 dual-core processor QL-64(2.1 GHz, 1MG L2 cache)
LCD: 15.6 HD CineCrystal (720p, 1366x768)
Ram: 3 GB Memory
HDD: 250 GB HDD

Now, I've installed IL-2 on it and when I click start it asks for Run as Admin which I do but then nothing happens at all..I sit for awhile and the game doesn't start..????

Any Idea's guys

Many thanks

Is it installed in the Programs folder?

If it is - create a folder in C:\ and name it Games, re-install IL2 there

Have you ran IL2setup.exe first?

Maybe it's possible to copy it to the different location and no need for a reinstall?

Yea, create a new folder off c:/ called "Games" In that folder install all your gaming applications. I also created a folder called "Utilities" inside "Games" for all my gaming utilities such as trackIR, Stab, Gapa, etc...

I recently loaded up a new machine running Vista Ultimate, and have not had any problems running any gaming (IL2 modded, Stab, TrackIR, Teamspeak, FalconAF w/HiTilesAF, COH, etc...) software following this directory structure configuration. The only thing I have not been able to run in IL2 modded is the splash screen switcher.

Also turn off User Account Control.

Note, I have not had to run in "XP Compatibility" mode for any of my gaming stuff including IL2. Everything is running great with the directory structure. The only other thing I did is set up Vista to run in Classic view mode to "look like" XP for familiarity with using the OS.

good luck!

is the IL2fb the setup file you are talking about..

Now the screen goes black as if to try and start game then goes back to desk top

reinstall is not always the solution if in first install something went wrong (you said no desktop icon!!!)
because possible errors were introduced in registry.
I run Il2 under Vista and works.
If you made a system restore point before the first install, use it and then carefully install IL2 (no other applications running, internet deconnected, all antiviruses and protections off, exteriors disks and devices deconnected)
or:
make a system restore point*, desinstall Il2 again, clean registry with CCleaner, reinstall Il2 carefully....and good luck, really

*so you can at least come back to this point if something goes wrong again

I hope you get it to work on your next try, because it sounds like not everything was installed on the first one, when you are missing IL2setup.exe. Always a good policy IMHO, is to install to a non-default location, as WindWeapon rightly suggests.
