FIRST FA-22 FIGHTERS DELIVERED
TO LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE.

These are Great In-flight Photos
Of the FA-22 as the first Aircraft
Delivery was being made to Langley
AFB in Va. Langley is to be first
Operational AFB for the FA-22. It is
A very beautiful AFB, located in a
Picturesque location, as you can see
In these photos, near Norfolk and
Hampton , Va.

The Aircraft flying along with the
FA-22 in the last of these photos is
The F-15, which will be replaced by
The FA-22 which is several times
Better.

In Actual In-flight (simulated)
Combat Operations against the F-15,
Two FA-22s were able to operate
Without detection while they went
Head to head against (8) F-15s. The
FA-22s scored Missile Hits (Kills)
Against all the F-15 Aircraft and the
F/A-22s were never detected by
Either the F-15s or Ground Based
Radar. Maj. Gen. Rick Lewis said:
'The Raptor Operated Against All
Adversaries with Virtual Impunity;
Ground Based Systems Couldn't
Engage and NO Adversary Aircraft
Survived'!

FA-22 -- America 's Most Advanced
Fighter Aircraft for the 21st Century!
They're a titanium and carbon fiber
Dagger. They're so advanced that if
Their on-board locator is switched off
Even our own satellites can lose track
Of them. They're the first military
Aircraft ever built that is equipped
With a 'black-out button'. What that
Means is this:
The best conditioned fighter pilots are
Capable of maintaining consciousness
Up to in the vicinity of 15+ G. The
Raptor is capable of making 22+ G
Turns. If someday an adversary builds
A missile that is capable of catching
Up to one of these airplanes and a
Raptor pilot sees that a strike is
Imminent, he hits the 'b.o.b.' and the
Airplane makes a virtual U-turn,
Leaving the missile to pass right on by.

They know that in the process he will
Temporarily lose consciousness, so the
Raptor then automatically comes back
To straight and level flight until he
Wakes back up.

"Pierre Sprey, a former systems analyst for the Defense Department and a designer of the F-16 and the A-10 Warthog. Combined with the Air Force wanting the Raptor to be a technological marvel packed with everything that would fit, that has resulted in poor planning and the program's exorbitant cost, he said.

'They made it so complicated and hopeless that it took forever,' Sprey said. 'It's just disgraceful.'

Pursuing the stealth technology was simply a waste of time and money, he said, because it isn't possible to completely cloak a fighter against long-wave or infrared radar."

Hmmm. It is absolute BS that it cannot be detected, it is impossible to make any aircraft "invisible" at present, and it has been plagued with problems throughout its development. I think in March this year another one crashed in California on a test flight, killing the pilot after catastrophic flight computer failure. Its technically a marvel, but what is it needed for? If I was a tax payer I would want my money going something somewhere more useful. But hey, roll on WW3 right? Not that anyone will know much about it. *Kaboom*

Strange.. in that we have had FA-22s here at HOLLOMAN AFB in NM for some time now.. I see one on my way to work from time to time.. I timed it just right one day and he flew right over my truck about 1,000ft up.. In that the runway is perp to the freeway I drive on.

yeah the raptor's been around for a while now...not really a big secret. hell theyve even been performing at airshows...

all that technology and "black out button" all the while some unsupervised 5 yr-old with a slingshot and a junior mint at Oshkosh can probably bring it down. Big Grin Tongue

I love airplanes as much as anyone one this forum, but the F-22 is looks like a boondoggle to me. They cost $351 million dollars each, have poor ground attack capability, haven't yet been used in battle even though they've been operational since 2007, and, most important, the Pentagon doesn't want any more (they want the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter). The only reason the F-22 is still in production is because of Congressional pork barrel spending which saddles the Air Force with more of the damned things. This is nothing but defense contractor welfare for Lockheed-Martin/Boeing.

Think how many UAVs or JDAMs - proven terrorist killers in Iraq and Afghanistan - or state of the art suits of body armor for our troops $351 million could buy! If you live in the U.S., I urge you to call your Congresscritters to tell them to cut off funding for the F-22, and roll it over to the JSF or to cover the cost of ongoing operations in Iraq or Afghanistan. Don't be put off just because it's Barney Frank (annoying liberal) leading the charge, this is a good government issue that should transcend political boundaries.

I know this topic should go on Spray and Pray, but it just burns me up that lobbyists are deciding U.S. defense procurement policy instead of the military.

Yes, the first Operational F22A's were delivered to Langley AFB. I would know, I was there the day the first one showed up and deployed the 27th Fighter Squadron on their first operational deployment.

I hope Obama will not limit the production of these great fighters

agreed.

why not? they arent doing a thing but wasting money. given the current economic climate i would hope mr. O would end stuff like the F-22. they are impractical weapons for a new kind of battlefield. just cuz its "cool" doesnt mean it needs to stick around. all the F22 is right now is an experimental showpiece of advanced technology. eyecandy for the whole world to get scared over. it hasn't even been in combat. the only thing theyve proven is they can earn a buck at airshows and recruit more people into the air force by saying "hey look at this thing! you can fly it too!" youd think that if it was so groundbreaking and practical it wouldve been rushed into combat in Iraq and Afghanistan by now. It hasnt because they know it can't do the job in that kind of war. The cheaper, time-tested aircraft are doing that...and they are doing it well.

I'd choose an A-10 over a Raptor any day of the week...

I do not want to be rude, but to give F-22 :? to the simulator and similar to modern st shit is inappropriate. WW I, Korea and even understand, but the war in Vietnam and is higher for IL quite strange ... . This is just my opinion. According to me it would like for each time a separate MOD. Aircraft, maps, etc. just for the period that the user chose. Sorry Buffin

I'm not sure I would. It's all mission dependent. The A-10 is getting a bit long in the tooth, even though it's a very good design. Modern smart munitions make it easier to achieve stand-off kills against the sort of targets the A-10 was designed to engage with guns and "dumb" weapons. For a strike against a well-defended target, I'd want something fast with good ECCM and anti-missile defense with a decent number of hardpoints. I'd say that the F-15E Strike Eagle does a better job for that. If I had to get low and slow to do the job, I'd want a Hellfire-armed UAV, like the Predator. For a pure air superiority fight against a well-trained opponent flying a 4th or 4.5 generation fighter, I'd want the F-22.

The real problem with the F-22 is that it's a victim of the Cold War. These days development time on any new military aircraft is measured in decades - no busting out a prototype in a couple of months like they did back in the 1930s and early 1940s. When the F-22 was first designed, back in the early 1980s, the Soviet Union existed and the US and NATO were worried that the Soviets would field large numbers of 5th generation air superiority fighters. With the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact, that threat never materialized. The nearest competitors to the F-22, the Sukhoi PAK and the Shenyang J-XX, haven't yet been flown, making the F-22 a plane in search of a mission.

Strategically, given the development time needed, it makes more sense to spend the money on the next generation of fighter - the F-35 - instead of buying more F-22s. And, that's exactly what the Pentagon brass want. The only people who want more F-22s are defense contractors and the congresscritters they've bought.
