better looking atmosphere request

Looking to compare the skyline between photos and IL2, I think the depth of field (distance/horizon) would look more realistic if it was blurred by more atmoshere. Is it possible to create a mod that would enable this?
My FPS drop when using clouds, and the "hazy" setting is hardly different from clear.
What I would like is some setting that increases the smog so the sky can be cloudless yet the horizon imperciptable.

....and a layer cloud, so you can't see the ground under it. In fact there ought to be more variety of atmosphere settings (I must admit, I'm getting a bit bored with the same cloud distribution every time Sad )

Yes definately, I tend to fly at very low altitudes 1000-3000m Yet around 6000m seems a more real altitude to be flying, a cloud layer below would be great.
