CTD 60%
#1

Ok I haven't screwed with Il2 in months and I installed the neptune, the sea gladiators and the sea hurricanes And i got the CTD at 60%.

Now I know it is something to do with either the sea hurricane or the gladiator. I also know that the STD folders are all correct and also that the buttons folder is in the correct place. and lastly I used 3.8.

I normally wouldn't ask yall but I have to run and don't have time to mess with it right now.

If what you say is true and you have the latest Buttons in the correct folder, I'd say you probably made a typo or didn't copy a line properly when you edited your .ini files. Check again.

No worries. If I had a nickel for everytime I am absolutely sure I have correctly installed/unzipped such or such file when I actually haven't...

For the first time ever I have had a CTD at 60%. There is mention here of the buttons files being where they are supposed to be. Can you give me any idea where they "are supposed to be"? Do I/should I have any? Do I need to get rid of some if I do have them?

Only thing, mod wise I have done recently is to try and install the recent Mosquito mod, but there, there were just some changes to make to files, and no download that I could see. I have deleted the lines I had added as directed by the readme. Still the 60% thing. Also, I downloaded the recent water mod and copied it into the mods folder, but I deleted it. Did not help. I changed my water setting to "2" instead of default "1" but I have changed it back. I only did that because it was mentioned that ATI cards (mine is a 4830) would look better at 2 than 1.

Is there something else I need to look for? I'm old (67), not computer smart, and I only know about the game what you guys here tell me in this forum. I've run out of ideas (of which there aren't very many at my age anyhow).

Thanks for any help/advice. Big Grin

I very much appreciate your response. I have read the thread, and I think I have understood at least part.

I went into my game and looked in Files/GUI/Game and it didn't have a Buttons file in it. So I did as the thread said, downloaded the latest AC Installer thing and searched for the buttons file, and copied it into the ....../Files/GUI/Game folder. Now I have a buttons file. I'm going to try my game now to see if it works. It works! I guess the lack of a buttons file was the culprit. But I have one more question for you if I may. Since my game has been working fine, then obviously I had a buttons file before. Any idea where it might have gone? I'm pretty sure it was something I had been doing, but for the life of me I can't remember what it was. Of course, I can't remember very well what I was doing a half hour ago either.

Thank you very much for your answer, and your time.

If you havent installed new aircraft that require new FLIGHTMODELS, then your game would not have required a mod buttons file, and you would not have missed it.

The planes you mentioned in your opening of course all have new FM's and so required the latest buttons that contain those.

In AAA mod activators, the buttons file is not included, for various practical reasons. You get your first, the first time you use an AC_installer.

Thank you. Maybe now I am starting to understand it all a little better. Well, "understand" probably isn't the word I need to use. What I have done is started to see some of the things I need to do if my game gets screwed up again.

Thanks for all you help and your patience.

Bob, don't sell yourself short, you did pretty good. (one way you can tell this, is that CirX did not direct any vituperation your way) The fact that adding the correct buttons file fixed your 60%CTD suggests that you probably did, at some point, add a new aircraft, needing a new flight model, but did not install the buttons file, or run the A/C installer. The Mosquito you vaguely alluded to may have been it, I don't know enough about that one, or maybe it is one you can't recall.

Best thing is to maintain a list of what MODS you install, and always test the game after each install or step. Also be very explicit in describing what you have installed or done, to make it easier for diagnosis.

Oh, and better to start a new thread, rather than just tack your problem onto someone else's. This, too, makes it easier to find you, and help you out.

Cheers!
