FMB questions
#1

I apologize in advance because I am sure this answer is somewhere. I searched for answer in http://www.il2-fullmissionbuilder.com/index.php w/o luck And searched here.

I am just getting into making a full sized mission.

1. My main problem for now is that I cannot assign a target to blue side after already assigning targets to red.

2. Also, I noticed in this clip, the guy uses a zoom in feature on the map. (Uses the mouse to pick area with a rectangle select type tool)) Can't give the minute in the clip cause there is no counter.

Anyone know the controls to make that work?

Thank you.

to zoom into the FMB map...press ctrl and left click mouse together to draw a box
zoom out by slider on left only

You only have to assign target for the side you are playing at, enemies don't need targets Smile

Thanks for the reply, but Ctrl+left click assigns an object to the map.

I'm doing a Pacific mission with US carrier battle group Hellcats flying CAP vs. incoming Japaneses fighters/torpedo & dive bombers. I want the blue to have targets (carriers/battleship) instead of just flying around in circles over the group. (as they are doing now.) Not possible?

Dorkfish,

Yes it's possible, but you cannot have selected the player piloted plane before you assign targets to the opponent side, or they will be assigned as targets for the player side.
Make the selection of the player piloted plane the very last mission adjustment before you test/fly your mission. This works for me.

dorkfish, it's actually 'Shift' and left-click to zoom in, what also works re: assigning targets, if you have already assigned a plane to 'Player', you can just reassign 'Player' to an AC for the opposing side, which will then also allow you to assign targets for the other side.
Just remember to switch your pilot back to the right side afterwards...or do like Kopfdorfer said, and only assign a player aircraft last.

dorkfish,

Don't get frustrated with this situation. It is a limitation of the FMB. You cannot assign targets to both Blue and Red in the SAME mission. It's impossible.

Now, some people may THINK they can do this, but they are mistaken. Yes, you can physically assign Targets to both Blue and Red, but if you then look closely, they are incorrect----> Click on the Target properties tab and look at the 'Applies to:' setting, the two options are Red and Blue. In any mission, this particular setting will be either all Red or all Blue (if you place more than one Target). You can't have some Targets as Red and some Targets as Blue. It's Impossible. The FMB will automatically change them.

But you CAN set a simple target (and also assign escorts) for enemy aircraft, not through "Targets" but by going into "Waypoints".

Of course. However, dorkfish was obviously having problems setting Mission Objective 'Targets' for both Blue and Red. So, I simply addressed his particular question.

I assumed he knew that you can 'Set' a Target for a particular flight in one or more of the waypoint tabs.

bigbossmalone - thanks so much for that. So much easier than using the slider or dragging the map all over the place.

Aviar - thank you for the info. I guess I'll just assign blue the actual targets, seeing they are going after surface targets and red is defending against air only. AI doesn't really need targets to know to attack aircraft. Plus I tell them to anyway on radio.

Kopfdorfer - thank you also for the reply. But I did test that and Aviar is correct. It changes the assigned color to one or the other. Can't be both.

Thanks again to all. Smile
