Does this mod affect when/whether the AI bails out?

Since I started using the AI Mod I've noticed that AI pilots frequently fail to bail out when their plane is going down, and this results in other AI pilots continuing to shoot at planes which are clearly already on their way down. Furthermore, if the downed plane hits the ground at a shallow angle and skids to a stop without exploding then the other AI planes will actually continue to attack it while it lies smoking on the ground... and keep on doing so until they run out of ammo.

I don't recall ever seeing this behaviour before... but I may have just not been paying attention!

Sounds like a conflict to me, I haven't noticed any difference.

Was that a response to my post?
All I have installed is UI 1.1.1, the AI mod, and some of HG&P's effect mods.

Well that's odd, because I have a whole ton of mods and they bail out just as much now as they always have. On a few rare occasions I've seen bomber crews stay in a mortally-wounded bomber and try to recover, but other than that, the only things preventing them from bailing are high speed or death. I've also never witnessed enemy aircraft strafe wrecks - it seems seldom enough that they even strafe relatively intact AC.

Exactly how fast were they going when they didn't bail? That could explain it, assuming you didn't kill the aircrew and not notice...

wonders if certificate is still around....

Just checked and certificate has not posted at AAA since 4th may, does anyone know if he is still working on this somewhere else? or know his whereabouts? As purely an offliner this has to be the no1 mod for me, would anyone else be able to carry it forward (with certificates permission offcourse) if he has no interest anymore?

cheers all

I have noticed many times that AI fails to bail out from a damaged planes:
1) sometimes when elevator is damaged and plane goes straight down.
2) when aileron is damaged or shot off - pilot tries to recover but enters a spin and dies. Always.

A few observations:

In 4.08 & 4.09 ai pilots have a bigger tendancy to "ride her in" as opposed to bailing. I've noticed no change in this behavior after installing the ai mod. After installing the mod I've seen ai bail from aircraft that have broken up and/or on fire. I one occasion I saw an ai bail from 109K4 after I peppered him with a mustang during a high speed pass. As I passed him I looked over my shoulder and saw him pop the canopy. What makes this relevant is that the aircraft was visiually undamaged. No smoke missing parts, nothing. I must have hit the control cables.

Personally, I don' think its particularly unrealistic that many ai don't bail. G-forces, jamed canopies, wounds, as well as the thought process that maybe they can ditch instead of bailing. Of course maybe I'm rationalizing too much here.

I don't know how many times I've been at 110% and then have a wingman seemingly effortlessly pass me by, often climbing higher as well, to engage the enemy ahead.

I think it's a sort of in-built advantage the game assigns to itself where it concerns AI planes.
Depending on the plane you might have to adjust engine parameters such as "Prop Pitch" and "Mixture".
The Prop Pitch adjusts the angle of the propeller enabling it to "bite" the air more efficiently. The lower the prop percent the more the "bite" at lower RPM. Meaning your speed should increase and RPM's should decrease proportionately. Just be careful not to pitch too much or the RPM's will be insufficient to move the prop. There are links in this forum with some good info about complex engine management. The Aircraft Guide located in your game folder has information for each plane such as "combat" rpms and economy rpm's. The idea is to find the prop pitch that allows full throttle at the recommended Combat RPM or Combat Engine Setting.
The AI of course is always set at optimum everything so there will be times when they pull away no matter what you do but proper engine management does help.

Quote:"mort 1"]Just gone through the 10 pages of posts and I have not seen any reference to the wingman covering the leader. On recent missions I have noticed that wingmen take up station where they are supposed to but do not interfere with attackers. On my last mission I even ordered my wingman to "attack fighters" when I was under attack and again nothing. In frustration I started the Tab 7 dance and again nothing. I have never seen this before and perhaps it is a blip but I would like to hear from others if that is their experience.
I also have seen no difference in the wingman's lack of covering. They still spend most of the time ignoring the enemy plane/s tearing me apart to steal the kill in front of me, sometimes ramming me in the process. This has been an unbearable aspect since I first started playing this game and I had high hopes this behavior would change with this mod. In fact ALL friendly aircraft jump every one of my potential kills and take them repeatedly. Even if I have one burning, if the pilot doesn't bail they will always steal the kill even when I'm being shot to hell. None of the commands seem to correct this.
This mod is definitly a move in the right direction but it hasn't changed the experience much for me as of yet. But I do appreciate someone at least trying to improve the horrendously bad AI behavior in the game. It's something the developers should have done in the first place.
