thats a bit harsh Batbomb. Janes WWII fighters had somthing like that if you were shot down you could take over an AI controlled plane and continue the mission but it was some thing modeled for that game. it maybe a copyright issue if someone were to do something similar if it is possible in the first place.

I think it would be cool to have. If I play a real long B-17 flight over germany, that takes like an hour or two, only to be shot down and have to fly it again stinks. I think we should have a thing where you can switch to an AI plane in that situation. Great Idea!

Actually the game already has that feature. In the controls panel there is a place to assign keys to do that very thing. You have the players acft then you have something like 10 other acft the player can jump into. Now bare this in mind, it will only work in single player, not online, and it only works for your side in your squadron; no jumping between squadrons.

EAW had it too, and it wouldn't be a copyright issue at all. It's not a new idea and I strongly doubt anybody gives a monkey's who uses it.

i'm afraid you're mistaken on that, US_GRANT, you might be confusing it with jumping between positions, such as gunners/bombardier, etc. You cannotswitch aircraft at any point, which is what the poster's asking.
this was actually one of my first mod requests some time back, but it couldn't be done - at the time. now, i still doubt it could be implemented - but i'll tell you - if it could be implemented, i'd be stoked.

I'll have to test that out, but I think the B-17 only has seen positions total in it in the game although in real life there were 10 crewmembers.

I guess I get to eat crow. you were right. gunner positions. that's good to know. Now I can prgram in my gunner positions instead of cycling through them to get where I want. Always good to learn something new.
