OK, I've got the game to launch but I'm getting a CTD at 5%. Could this be a file problem?

People using vista are advised to install Il-2 in different directory (not the default C://Program files/Ubisoft/Il-2 Sturmovik 1946) such as C:/Games/FLIGHT.

Hoped this helped Good Luck

G:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946; and make sure you have right clicked the icon and click on properties and run as admin....

Hi Cujo!

I had the same problem, the very best solution I found is as follows:

I just installed the IL2 Sturmovik 1946 folder in a computer that uses Windows XP and then I transfer everything on my computer that uses Windows Vista.

Very important that you install the file directly to disk C and especially not in x86 program file or program file.

Once it did, it just remains you that as your game up with ways that you like, but you have to do the installations manually.

Me that is what I do and it works well and has no especially not forget to backup your mods folder on a regular basis, if you make a mistake you can go back.

Big Grin Hi Cujo,

I had IL-2 installed on computer with XP-pro SP3, and made copy on external disc ( it is my backup ) - after that I just copied Ubi Soft folder with complete moded IL-2 in it on computer with Vista ( it was 32 bit Vista though !) IN FOLDER I NAMED "MY PROGRAMS", adjusted conf .ini parameters and everything worked O.K.

Hope this might help You a bit.

Regards,

DOCTOR

I did a fresh install & rebuilt my game from the "UI 1.1" up... I put it in C:/Games/UBI/IL2 1946. I right click my exe and set to compatibility mode XP. I also set ALL of my Security permissions to "all", from "administrator" to "user". I also unlocked all the files from "read-only" (that way I could re-set my config file). It is possible that changing my permissions could have cover this last one, but hay...

It's wierd as I haven't had any problems with anything I used in XP that I now use in Vista but I keep hearing about them so was quite apprehensive about moving onto Vista beforehand.

My IL2 installed and worked in the same way as XP and my Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 works exactly the same as before despite hearing of people having problems with them on Vista.

Strange.

OK guys, the problem was an SFS file I missed during the transfer via flash drive. I realized this from what Cirx wrote in another thread about the 5% crash, so THANK YOU Cirx!!!
If the sim is launching at 5% and THEN crashing that's not a Vista problem, it's a file problem.

I also found it is important to run il2setup.exe before you try to launch the sim in Vista.

Also...don't see any need at all to run Il2 outside of C:\Program Files in Vista as it works perfectly fine there. Overall, I like Vista a lot!

Yes, when I was crashing at 5% I resisted the urge to blame Vista and I'm glad I did

my pleasure. its nice when someone gets a problem whacked.

about the program files directory problem, it may never bite you, but keep it in the back of your head when you start adding some types of mod and changing and editing stuff. thats when it may strike!

The problem you're going to run into with the game being in the default directory is that any changes you make to the conf.ini file (a system file as far as Vista is concerned) is that every time you close the game, Vista will revert the conf.ini back to it's original state before you changed it.

Putting the game in a totally different directory, or better yet drive, will completely alieviate the problem. It's also highly recommended to run the game in XP SP2 compatibility mode.

I've been running the game in Vista x64 for almost a year now and these were the only real problems I encountered.
