Please Please Help

OK, so I had a fatal system crash, and am reinstalling EVERYTHING.

I have my computer operational after about a month. Now I have IL2 installed, and I CANNOT get Mat Manager working to save my life. I have tried everything and no go. I have two possible theories on why it is not working, but don't know anything I can do about it.

1 - I have been unable to make any folder on my computer not "read only." I tried the steps posted by MM creator using cmd in run under start menu, but I cannot get it to work even though I am following steps accurately.

2 - won't work on a modded install.

I am running Windows XP OS.

Has anyone gotten Mat Manager 2.36 unified download to operate on a modded install? Is there anyone who could help me troubleshoot and get it going?

I am really desperate and past my limit of frustration on this. After a month of dicking with this I have about had it. I REALLY would be appreciative of any help or advice.

Well let's start by getting rid of one of your theories I,m running Mat Manager 2.36 on a modded install so it can't be that.I'm also running XP so,there goes the other theory. All my folders even the one's I create are read only the only changes that a guy can make to them is to hide or archive them. What properties are you trying to change them to?

Hey Scharnhorst,

Like Gumpy, I have UI 1.1 with windows xp pro and MAt Manager 2.36 functioning properly. Mat Manager I have found to be particular to get going.
Firstly, it has helped me in the past to set my Mat Manager path above my program files path.
IE C: Mat Manager.
Secondly, you do need copy your il2fb.exe, and change the name of the copy to il2.exe - Mat Manager can only run through il2.exe.
Thirdly you need to direct Mat Manager to the correct install of UI 1.1. If you have multiple copies for safe mod installation, make sure you are directing it to the one you want to open. You do this by opening MAt Manager, and by hitting the Setup Button and directing Mat Manager to the correct path. I apologize if this is too simple to solve your problems, but it is as technical as I can get.

Good Luck.

Now if only Aces reads these threads and will continue to update MAt MAnager.

I have XP professional, and I had it working before the crash, but that was the old installers. I had a hard time finding a download for Mat Manager, and there was a post from Ace that said to download a particular one. I made sure to download that particular one because his post said the other one was invalid or would not work correctly.

I downloaded the correct one, according to the MM author. I ran the installer and told it where to unzip all the mats, (My IL2 folder). It takes FOREVER unzipping the mats, then installs mat manager. I make all the changes I want in mat manager and nothing. I made sure to rename il2fb to il2 and it still does not work. I have tried installing this thing like 10 times and noda.

The only thing I can think of is that I am installing both my IL2 game and Mat Manager on a seperate Drive. I have a 160 GB plug in drive that I am using. the path I am installing to is this:

Game H:\Games\Ubisoft\IL-2 1946
Mat Manager H:\Games\Ubisoft\Mat Manager

But the funny thing is, it should not make a difference where or on what drive.

All I know is that I am doing EVERYTHING correct in readme and help forums (I have done research before comming here) and it WILL NOT WORK.

What else is there to do?

Point initial install (Mats) to unload in game folder, copy and rename il2fb to il2.exe, install mat manager. I have clearchache=0 in my config.ini also.
:?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

@ Kopfdorfer,

Thank you for your help, but do you have any other tips or suggestions? Did you have a hard time getting it to run correctly? If all else I will try your install tip, but when I had it working previously I had it installed in the same way .........

I guess you would not be willing to email me your Mat installer? Maybe the installer I downloaded is corrupted. The only thing is it is the only one available and I have downloaded several times to check this. Same problem.

I had the same problem awhile back.I was about to give up on it until I found a self installer.
Google Mat Manager self installer, maybe it'll work for you.It worked on my XP and Vista PC's...both running modded IL-2.

Hey Scharnhorst

I would recommend you try installing mat manager to the same hard drive, or at least an internal one if that isn't possible. When you say not working, what exactly is the problem? is mat mat manger not starting or some kind of error message? Its been a long time since I've used it so I can't think of any problems off the top of my head, but if we can narrow it down I'm sure you'll get it working.

Thanks for the help guys, It is really encouraging to not be alone on this. I am about at my whits end.

Basically, the problem is that the mats will not display in game. Mat Manager itself opens and I can change options, but when I save and quite MM, then fire up the game ... no mats. Nothing is being copied into the cache folder. The installer does its thing, and it takes FOREVER for the mats to install as well as MM to copy the files to game folder, but when I start the game ... nothing.

Mat Manager installes, or so my computer tells me, but the program is not doing its job. I am stuck with the awful, atrocious, eye sore default mats. The US one just pisses me off. The US star poking outside the blue circle??? WTF?

I have used Mat Manager for so long I forgot how awful and bad the default roundels were ... AAHHHGGG!!!

Anyway, I have tried the advice, and I installed everything to the internal hard drive. I even installed Mat Manager one folder above the programs folder. still nothing. The MM installer runs, MM opens, I change my settings, save and copy mats, start game ... nothing works.

- I added clearcache=0 to my config.ini
- I made a copy of il2fb.exe and renamed it il2.exe.

It still does not work.

I am doing everything needed to install properly. My methodology is not wrong.

I remember reading about having to make the cache folder not read only. I have not been able to do this, even though I have followed the correct steps ...

Oh man, that what a nightmare. Bear with me, I just reinstalled my operating system also - I'll install IL2 and give Mat manager a go and see what happens. Will get back to you.

I hope you have had more luck that I... exactly the same issue, though I'm running Windows 7. Mat manager installed correctly, I make the changes in mat manager - it says its updating IL2 with the changes I've made.. but no effect in-game.

I wanted to give mat manager a try again, but I'm going to stick with Mcwolfs decal shine. The decals look as goods as mat manager, though they aren't customisable.

I might have to go to that, but I have a new symptom. Maybe someone could help me out with what it means ...

Run-time error "70"

Any ideas on this?
