buttons and sound files

Here is my question:

Can there be additional engines sounds added for new planes/motors? (i.e. griffon sound for new spit)

Mongoose stated that it should be possible.

So, if there is even a remote chance, why hasn't it been done? This is not to sound ungrateful for the work that has been done, my hat is off to you all that have worked so hard to bring us to this point. BUT, one of the bigger (IMHO) advances that the modders have brought is finally getting new sounds into the game. So could we have more please?

Just off the top of my head my wish list would include:
At least the option of 2 seperate jet sounds (I know not a biggie but it would 'sound' more interesting when flying/dogfighting jets)
Certainly a Griffin motor for the Typhoon and Spit Mk IX (I think these are correct)
Maybe a couple variations of wright cyclone for the many many bombers we have.
Also some assignable/variable start up sounds, instead of every DB605 having the same start up. As it is now, I think you assign 1 startup for all Fighters? So you really cannot have individual to the plane startups.

I am probably not alone here?

I am sure that hero/jaffa would have a field day with new options, or pull all his hair out finding new sounds to fit. Big Grin

Anyhow, thought I would voice my opinion on this, please forgive me if this was discussed, again, I am not whining, just throwing out an Idea.

Hi Greg,

You are going to get creamed.
I know that there are a myriad of threads here - I get lost all the time, but take some time and do some reading. There is a lot of information here, and like the rest of us you will find much of what you wish for done or in the process of being done.
Also, check your facts - yes there are many interesting technical arguments to have, but do a bit of research before someone bites your head off. There are many different engine sounds and several of several different types. There are Griffon sounds for later spits MkXII and MkXIV (the MIX had a Merlin - though I forget which model/s). The Typhoon had a very distinctive Napier Sabre 24 cylinder job, and in the game it is individualistically rendered by Mr. Ranwers and friends. The Cyclone is also represented I am pretty sure, though I stand to be corrected on that one.
There are a number of mods with different start up sounds AND VISUALS for several different types of engine if not all of them.
So read, explore, enjoy and experiment.

This site has been a pioneer for a lot of stuff that is happening regarding this sim, and although I am nothing but an end user, I think you will find encouragement to enjoy the sim and prodding to learn to create your own mods.
Good luck.

Ok thanks, yes some of the tech stuff I was off, albeit a lot in some places. I will dig around more and see what I can find. I honestly didn't know there where individual sounds included for the new planes coming out. Again I will look into this more, thanks for the direction, Kopfdorfer.

Paulo,

if you read the link that Hero put up, it seems like this will be possible? I am not entirely sure what UI 1.2 will bring. Maybe I am getting too old to understand all this techy stuff Confusedhock: What is sounds like is that they are trying to unify the sound files so there is no .93 .89 versions anymore just one 1.2 version that everyone will work with so that everyone will be on the same playing field. As far as adding more sounds or offering more .prs files for individual planes, I guess SOME of this has been done.

But as you have said, startup sounds seem to be all or none.
