Winning German Medals
#1

May be it has been asked many times and may it has been answered before,
but...how does the award winning system in IL-2 works. Why is it so difficult to earn an Knights Cross with Oakleaves and Diamonds and almost impossible to win the Gold KC?
There must be a reason winning these medals is not that simple?

The system is not based upon your achievements per mission, but rather your points. IMO it's a bad system that encourages behavior more than likely to get you killed... then again, most people get medals for doing stupid things, like running straight at a machine gun, and surviving anyway.

It's not easy to get a medal in real life...

How does the points system work in IL-2 and can it be altered? Where is it controlled? How many points does one need for instance to win the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves and Diamonds? More over, how many points are awarded for shooting down an enemy fighter, bomber and eventually a recon plane. Are any points given for destroying cars, tanks etc?

I think that you will get 100 points/engine so 1-engined plane=100 points and 4-engined plane=400 points like playing online. You'll get about 10 points for each car/artillery.

So, how many points are needed to win a certain medal? Is this system somewhere to be found in the game program?
If it is programmed by the creators of IL-2 it must be accessable in some way? Or not?

uhmmm, have you ever played an offline campaign?

have you ever noticed the "Points" section in the "kills/awards" menu?

there you can see how many points you have.
you get points for kills, destructed ground objects and achieved hidden or primary or so on mission targets.

it depends on what aircraft you shoot down how many points you get. a normal figher is 100, a B-29 some 500 or so... a primary target is 50 or 100, not quite sure.
try it out.

for DGEN campaigns you get 100 points for a kill no matter what aircraft, I believe. with DGEN it also depends on the year when you get the awards beacuse in 1941 teh level for Ritterkrez was lower than later on for example in real life too.

and yes, it is supposed to be difficult Wink

I have no idea about online....

oh, and it is Java coded AFAIK so it can't be altered "just like that"

Hello,

I don't know much about the shiny Luftwaffe medals, aside from the first few, but I have earned all of the USMC medals. Basically if you are able to shoot down 3-4 planes per mission you'll earn your medals quickly. It does depend on points per kill, but I believe if you shoot down an ungodly amount of aircraft in a single mission you will earn some type of multiplier.
(For instance, I shot down 8 Franks/Rexs over Iwo Jima and I was awarded the Medal of Honor) At that point you'll have accumulated ~60 or so victories.

Hope this helps,

Hi

25,000 points to get the 'Diamonds to the Knights Cross' and 30,000 points for the 'Golden Oak Leaves'. I needed a campaign of over 40 missions to win these.

Try 'JG27' or 'Lomg-Nose Focke-Wulf Pilot'. Both Excellent campaigns.
