basic Help needed to use mods, please
#1

Hello everyone. I hope I have posted this in the right place.

I am new to this website , apart from downloading the Unified installer, and quite frankly, I don't think i know what i am doing now with IL2 1946,
and I'm looking for some guidance please- in easy, assume- nothing -steps . -lol

I have tried several times to download and install the 1.1 version, but it keeps telling me on install that i have corrupted downloads. So, I have reverted to vanilla install with 4.08.
I have a 1.0 version downloaded which i had running some long time ago, and with it i could change between 4.08 and 4.09 with 6DOF.- so that seems to be OK.
But I never saw any changes in terrain and scenery, in fact almost nothing different from the vanilla install, and i think it's because I didn't take further steps.
I have had a look now at the maps forum, and I get the impression that to see those maps in my install, I need to do some more downloading (of the maps ) and then somehow use the unified installer to bring those new maps into use.?
I'd like to see them listed in QMB, which is where i do most of my flying. Is that possible to use more maps in QMB? And if so, what must i do to get that. E.g The Normandy map!

I've seen something about running the unified installer. This might seems a daft basic question, but if I have it installed, how do I " run it"?

Can someone point me to a guide that will let me use the Normandy map if i have version 1.0 of the Unified installer on my system.

Thanks a lot.

I had a similar problem with some parts of the download being corrupted.
I persevered and eventually got a complete set.

Check the size of each part to see if they are complete

part01 256103kb
part02-07 256000kb
part08 27042kb

Just try and re-download the parts which are not the correct size.
Its worth it to get the complete up to date set.

1. Vanilla install IL2-1946 (4.07)
2. Update up to 4.08 with free patch
3. Copy all files & sub-directories as a backup of the clean install
4. Download UI 1.0 or 1.1 .... there were 8 parts in UI1.0 I believe
5. make a seperate directory for the DL files & makwe sure all download UI files in the same directory
6. Run the first of the UI files
7. Shouild ask you to point to the folder where the game is installed
8. Shoukld install UI OK if you have download parts.

Thank you Salmo and Asheshouse for your replies, which have answered the above ( first ) part of my queries, but once I have installed the unified installer, I now need to know how I use it , which is what the second part my query was asking - (I probably didn't make it too clear -lol)

Create two shortcuts on Desktop. The paths should be as follows assuming a normal c: drive installation

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\il2fb.exe ------- Use this icon to start the game normally.

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\Il2VersionSwitcher.exe ----- Use this icon if you want to switch the version of IL-2 you are using.
Provides a choice of 4.08 unmodded, 4.09b1 unmodded, 4.08 modded, 4.09b1 modded, 4.08 modded with 6DOF and 4.09b1 modded with 6DOF.

Regarding the maps, and Normandy map in particular, if you install UI 1.1 the Normandy map and many other new maps are included. Go into Full Mission Builder (FMB) and click on load map and you will get a list of all the maps available. This will be the easiest way for you to get them.

If you are wanting to install the later LAL_Rone Normandy map viewtopic.php?p=71993#71993

download the files from that page
extract LAL_Normandie.exe to a temp folder on Desktop
from that folder copy the MODS folder into your game root folder.
find the existing all.ini file in MODS/MAPMODS/Maps
Open it in a text editor and add the text "LAL_Normandie-44 LALnormandy2/LAL_load2.ini" at the bottom

You should now be able to open the Normandie map in FMB. It will be last in the list of maps.

Check that it runs ok before considering adding the new PCP textures recommended by LAL_Rone.

Thanks for that- However, it looks like QMB plus has given me the necessary maps in QMB, which was my main question.

However, I see the list of maps for FMB, in my install, but I haven't a clue how to make a mission in FMB.
Is there a tutorial anywhere, please?
