I am having snags witht he new computer I have built. I have loaded Win7 as the operating system and when I loaded IL2:1946 it didnt like the setup program. At some point I think I clicked the "This program loaded properly" in an attempt to bypass the problem, but now when setup loads it just stops and closes back to the desktop!
Can anyone help with:
1. Unsetting Win7 from thinking that setup is complete / not functioning
2. Loading IL2 in Win7 generally
I also have had trouble with the drivers for my thrustmaster afterburner force feedback which hung during installation!! But the joystick seems to be recognised by Win7 so not to worry.
Any help greatly appreciated...

When I installed IL-2 on Vista I used double-clicked on a file on the 1946 DVD named "a".
It's the same problem as you'll get with Vista. Ignore the setup.exe and run the a.exe instead - this will perform the installation.
I've been running Windows 7 RC for a couple of months now and i've found that practically everything works or you get a Vista or 64bit version for it. If you find a problem just Google and the solution is about. W7 is pretty good actually.
You'll find that Hyperlobby has missing items (like the PM button) and may throw errors on loading up but it does work fine.
Cannot believe I was beaten to it! I obviously talk too much......
Right click on any program you want to install under win7 hit properties then select compability with winXP and run like admin.
Same on the IL2FB.exe when comes up on your desktop.I run IL2 with win7x32 and x64 first beta and working fine!!!!

PS Maybe I spoke too soon.... I have a tray icon for the instalshield but it is just sitting there and nothing is happening. Any ideas chaps???
Okay - Belay my last. So just exactly why do you sometimes have to wait minutes for very basic things to happen, like renaming folders or seeing the results of a move command for a file, very odd!!!! The install shield have finally got its s**t in one sock and the usul install is happening... Very strange....

This Win 7 is doing my head in......
1. I have managed to install a fresh IL2:1946 from the DVD.
2. I have completed the install of the Unified Installer 1.1.
3. I have completed the install of the Unified Installer 1.1 Patch v1.
4. I have copied shortcuts to my desktop for both IL2fb.exe and the switcher.
5. I have set both the shortcuts to compatability WindowsXP(SP3).
When I try to run the switcher it says:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\_Game Switchers\4.08 Mods OFF (Original) not found.
Also, When I try to start the game it gets to 5% on the B-17 splash screen and then drops out back to windows.
More help please....

PS I have solved the switcher problem by setting the properties of the shortcut (and actual .exe file) to "Run as administrator".
Still working on the main program ....

I am still struggling with this. Everyone seems to have IL2 running really well on windows 7
I am completely frustrated here ... I have no idea how to get it running. I am at my whits end with this. I have no idea what to do next ..... Please please please help....

I have IL-2 v4.08 and Windows 7. I was install Eng Sound Mod v9.3, AC Installer v3.0, Wrapper.exe. But Windows writed me what the programm may be installed uncorrectly. In C:/Programm Files (x86)/IL-2 Shturmovik: RoW-2 I have MODS Directory, but not have file original_il2fb.exe. When I take mods cockpit_b29v4 and B-17 Cockpits pack in MODS directory I haven't got any changes. Please help!
