New here - some questions
#1

Hey guys,

Firstly I just want to say how incredible this community is! There are some seriously talented people working on this game and have made the game far more playable than it already was! So thanks for that.

I do, however, have a couple of quick questions.

Is there a way/mod to make the trees that are dotted around the maps collidable? I'm not refering to the forests, but to the individual trees that aren't in town centres - but the only that are on their own. Is there a simple command line that makes this possible?

Secondly, is it just my copy of the game that didnt ship with flight music? There are folders, but nothing in them. Or is it intended that people add their own music? If so, can someone steer me to somewhere that has fitting music? Smile

Thanks!

first of all welcome here

im pretty sure there is no mod that makes it possible to crash those trees.

i had no music too, but try it with the UI + bombbay door mod, there you can switch it on and off ingame.
it works on my pc Big Grin

Ahhh thats too bad. I wonder why the developers didn't make them collidable when the game was released? I always thought it'd e cool if they were because you could have been shot down, making an emergency landing and youd have to be careful of totalling your craft around one of the trees Tongue

Welcome to the Community darkenraja

You said it, in those empty folder you can paste some music (wav, no mp3) and it will sound while landing if its in Landing folder, while take off...
Don't know if you heared something about Mission4today.

Check it out, skins, templates, layers, missions, maps, inflight music, menu music, speak packs, pilot skins, etc etc etc

Hope it helps and don't forget to ask if you have more questions.

Have a nice flight

why not make the trees solid? or would it involve editing every tree?

Those trees are not and will never be solid. Here is the reason:

For the release of the original IL-2, much like the release of SOW when it comes out, very few home PC's had the capability to run the game at full graphics settings. This is one of the reasons why IL-2 graphics are so scalable. At all but the highest settings those trees were not visible at all. They were discarded to improve the framerates for players with lower-end PC's. Those trees are nothing more than sprites, images placed on the ground to give the appearance of more dynamic life in the landscape.

If you so wish, you can place random trees on maps through the use of the FMB (full mission builder) to enhance your flight experience down low, but I wouldn't recommend it. Even today, the amount of processing power might be too much for some PC's and you're taking away from the other objects you can use on the map.
