Problem ........... Solution....

Problem ...... How to get rid of more than 100 aircraft.... after they have completed their mission
They are a part of my Dec.7th. 1941 mission and having been a part of the first wave attack are now on their way back to the carriers.... where they will simply go around in circles whilst they await turn for landing on the carriers..... meanwhile they are using resources of the computer which might be more usefully employed to have the second wave attack do their work without being an extra strain...
180+ a/c in the air is manageable for a fast computer.... but the second wave requires another 100+ on top of that too Confusedhock:

late stragglers from the first wave or those which attacked Kanohe then carried on to Pearl might get caught by the two US P40's taking-off later.... but most which didn't get destroyed during the attack will just fly on home.

Solution...... Although i recently advised how to make submerged submarines easier to sink.... I left one...The Greenling as default... so i put three of them moving in the area of the Jap fleet with both the subs and the fleet set to sleep for the first 60 mins so they wouldn't attack each other. Then i altered the final waypoint for many flights from landing upon a carrier ....to attacking the subs... and they simply crash into the sea...whilst the moving subs are hardly affected...

Gets them out of the equation 8)

what do you think? any better ideas?

Good idea. Definitely 'unspawns' them. I wonder if you could get them to all try to 'Kamikaze' something as their last way point? Especially if it's a difficult or nearly indestructible target?

I wanted to get rid of some aircraft in a mission I did long time ago and this worked for me.

Out of sight of the main action I had the aircraft come down to about 50 meters at 200 km/h then using a couple of waypoints I reduced their altitude to 5 meters and then 1 meter and dropped their speed to 150 km/h and then to 110 km/h. They all crashed into the ocean. If the planes are on your side be sure to have them on radio silence or you will hear all their screams as they crash.

Hope this helps.

That is what happens... they kamikazi dive the sub...... trying to find a hard enough object was a problem. testing with a static submerged sub...it was sunk eventually after about 20 hits

Put in another static object nearby. The one of the moutain side with the clif will work.
Now, go into the .mis file.
Look for the line with that static object and copy it over to the subs line.
Check to make sure that you change the "Attack" order of the planes to that of the static object.
Now save and play.

All of your planes will Kamikaze into a mountain side instead of the sub. (Mountains don't sink..... Muhahahahaha.)

Just don't open it in FMB or you'll have to do it all over again.

Possibly several subs would help. Direct small groups of aircraft against each sub. I also like the mountain idea, I just hate having to re-do the text editing if I open the mission file.

I tried the airfield campfire object at first because I know it doesn't get destroyed but although i canged it to be red it would go back to neutral and the planes wouldn't attack it..... will they attack the mountain?

They should as long as you make it a "red" object in the .mis file.
You can also just have them fly at 100ft right into the side of it. Because it's an Object and not part of the map, they'll ignore the alt and fly right into it.

why not put a metal runway in the sea somewhere and make them all land on it ? job done Smile

I have the japanese fleet of six carriers.... but I want to get rid of the returning planes ASAP... not wait for them to land....then the second wave planes do not over-stretch the computer and turn it into a slide-show....
