hmm, it's decided to be a bit more helpful in that it's now telling me it can't start as it's missing "d3d8.dll" and that i need to reinstall to fix this -- again...

Annoying the annoying, so you don't have to.

Also, maybe put it in your game folder? You can download it here:

hey moggy i had the sam problem.....

last month i bought myself a new system with vista 64....

like you i couldnt install it from my disk,, all the disk would do was give me the first language option before install and that was it....

the disk just span and span but nothin....

serching all the forums didnt help , all i got was run this as admin or change that blah blah blah.... but again no joy...

i solved all this by by simply

(1) copying my ubisoft folder in the c drive program files on my older pc

(2) draging them to my exturnal hard drive

(3) then simply pasting the ubisft folder from the external hard drive to program files on the vista rig...

BINGO

one small set back though , on my old system i always had two il2 1946 folders...(YOU CAN HAVE AS MANY AS YOU LIKE)

one that was original and the other i use with the early sound mod, both were identical in name so that the one that was not in use i would change the name manualy as you cant have the same named file or folder in a folder together...

the set back being that vista for some reson would not run the original version (DIDNT SEEM TO RUN THE DISK) but when i use the sound modded folder which i do 99% of the time any way runs perfectly.....(NO DISK NEEDED)

Hello people! I tried most advice except for looksharp's, with no such bloody luck (though i might have no been doing something corrcct).

However, i found an IL2fb.exe file edited for vista, and IL2 works fine. Resolution's not as good as my old pc since IL2 doesn't support widescreen resolutions, and my laptop doesn't propperly display normal resolutions (they get stretched). Still, the game works now, and I'm currently also following Looksharp's advice, copying IL2 onto a memory stick (it'll take two file transfers, but i can do it), so that my laptop will be able to play IL2 with all the mods and uI as before (the idea of dl'ing UI, then digging out all those extra mods, and skins.... -_-' no thank you

Guys, thanks for all your help! My favourite game can now get to uni!

^^ if you have the coopreg folder filled by il2 matt manager, you have no idea how bloody long it's been taking to copy just that folder!

But still, it'll be worth the wait, then i can try canon's bob map [yes, i have been missing out!]

Hi guys,

I'm pretty new here but I now have the same problem with a new IL2 installation for the 4.09 patch on Vista 64bit that will simply not run.

With 4.07, 4.08 and even 4.09 it just gives me that spinning disc and then.. nothing.

Where can I find that exe that has been modified for Vista?

My modded install just ran fine?

But a clean install won't?

I installed in a folder outside Vista's "Programs" folder, all rights given to everyone, UAC settings are fine, registry rights are also OK.

I just can't see what I'm doing wrong.
