Get yourself the U.I. 1.1 plus patch and it will have most of the new aircraft in it.

Oh, I'm not having any technical problems--at least NOT yet LOL!
I was just wondering if this place would be suitable for me & my rather limited gamer needs is all...or if the 'tech talk' & such stuff was too 'over my head' to be useful.

You need Universal Installer UI 1.1 from here: (The link is inoperative)

You have the game patched to 4.08m already. That's good.

Download and install UI 1.1 on top of this and you will be ready to fly.

All new mod aircraft are flyable, but not all with authentic cockpits. Some use cockpits cloned from similar aircraft.

OK riffraff, I shall give it a try; btw: WHAT exactly do I get with this? As I said earlier I'm a pretty 'casual' gamer--I never do 'on line' but I love to have new planes to fly, new targets to blow up & maybe a 'modified effect or two';

Game Versions and Switcher:

This installer will provide Direct-2-Drive customers to update their game to be compatible with the DVD version and allow the mods to run.

The installer also provides a handy switcher that will be located in the 1946 game folder. The name of the switcher is 'Il2VersionSwitcher.exe' This small application will allow the user to switch to and from 4.08 and 4.09 as well as allowing for 6DOF is the user has a 6DOF capable trackIR version.

Hi and welcome to the site and the community.

If you mean Unified installer 1.1 then all you need is to keep up to speed which version of the AC installer you have.
I think the most up to date one is AC installer 3.8 at the moment.

If you have AC installer 3.8, then all you need to do is download the planes and follow the instructions.
If they come as an .exe file, then I don't think it should be neccesary to do anything except run that and just be sure it selects the correct directory (some people have several installs of IL-2)

There is one thing though. If you go into the WIP section, you'll find that most the planes in there come as manual installs. There shouldn't be anything wrong with doing a manual install, as long as you follow the instructions carefully and thorougly.

I've reinstalled my game about 8 times (yes, I'm not ashamed to admit that) because I didn't read the readme file provided, and therefore ruined my game...

The wrapper is one thing that is posted with many of the planes, but I don't think that should present a problem, I think that was a part of the "old way" of installing planes. Again, if you have the most up do date wrapper you should be fine.

There is a unification process underway between the various mod communities but for the time being the planes available at AAA are the only ones supported by the AAA site tech department.

P.s. - There is no general unified aircraft installer, but most of the released planes will be featured in Unified installer 1.2 which is due for release this month. Until then, you'll have to get each plane that's been released individually.

No you have answered my question very well, and thank you for the download of the A/C installer. The installer was what I was looking for, I saw it mentioned many times but no place from which to download it. Problem is now solved.

Now who do I ask to work up a flyable B-36? It went into service in 1946 I believe and it is a personal obsession of mine. That and Mig-15 Vs F-86. (Leaving out the Korean war, I always thought was a huge mistake by the creators of this wonderful simulation.)
