Some screens from my new map...

Hi all
Pacific Islands has always been one of my most-played maps, and I was getting a little bored with the scenery. I decided to do a re-work of it, making it more like my idea of the Pacific.
The map is available for download at SAS: http://specialaircraftservice.com/sas/i ... ml#msg8532

I've kept the airfields untouched, so you can quite easily edit existing Pacific Isles missions to use this one, only ships might be affected, as there are a few new land-masses.

I also like this map and did my own version some time ago....... The red airfield on the Southern Island didn't work correctly....only allowing use of one runway...so i got them both working and adjusted the hill which planes kept crashing into when going around the circuit.

Perhaps my actors.static would work OK with your map too (only maybe lose any trees you put on your new Islands).... I just added those nice corals to mine too....lol

I'd be interested to try your actors, fabianfred Big Grin
I've come across the problem of the one airfield..which hill did you adjust for height? To the west(leftt) of the AF, or the east(right)?

To the East of the airfield on the Southern island (left when approaching landing.....) if the planes are told to go around they hit this hill

if you wish to use any of my own alterations to the airfield or hill please feel free to incorporate them into a new version of your own nice map....

I'm off to try yours out now..

My link above includes a QMB mission and the .quick file to set it up easily (add to il2/Quicks folder)

Excellent work!!

Although I'm not a big "Pacific theatre-type", I think that you've got it looking dead-right!

You see chaps, Saffas are not just great rugby players!! Hehe!

I tried your map......
in the readme you spelled islands with a small i for the air.ini entry
Coral_Islands Coral_islands/load.ini ....should be Coral_Islands Coral_Islands/load.ini

using my actors.static works OK...but the height change to the hill which causes the planes to hit is in my height map so cannot be used with yours.
I use the South Island for red forces and the North airstrip for japanese use.... so the north airstrip in my actors.static is quite basic.

A nice map you have made... I like the pirate references.....and style.

Thanks for the headsup, fred Big Grin
I think I'm just going to leave the readme as is for now, see how many people get caught out.
I figured the height thing wouldn't work, I made quite a fe height adjustments to mine. I'll just go and reduce it myself, no worries.
Heheh- Beware the Sharks!! Thats just me having fun - its what I do best! Big Grin  I originally just did this for myself, but then decided to let it out into the wild...I've already re-done the textures since this release. I'll put out an update soon..

Hello bigbossmalone,
I downloaded your Map last night and it wouldn't load in QMB plus. My question is, am I installing properly? I notice that in the folder "Coral_Islands_V1[BETA]"
there are two folders and six files. I put the Coral islands folder in Mapmods, and the Tex folder in textures but that leaves the six files, where do those go.
Thanks for your help, I am looking forward to flying around those islands. Cheers, Bob

I love this texture but using it too much results in a very repetitive pattern I noticed in your Pacific map:
