trees WIP
#1

So i was thinking of making some trees so i made some test TGA files to check and see if i could do it, and my results so far are posted below.

You might notice the striping which doesn't occur with any other tree textures in the game, so i'm almost certain its something im not doing quite right.
Its a strange haze that grows more noticeable with distance and angle.

I thought the TGA file types might be the problem, but in order to save a transparency in photoshop they must be 32 bits. I thought this could be the problem.

any ideas on what might be causing this?

yes the further away you are the smaller tex res you need to make 64x64 32x 32 16 x 16 8x8 4x4 ect. ect. So when your moving closer you get what your deplsy and same for the further way you move.

i'll see if i cant make it a smaller bit size, but the game uses the same tga(s) to represent the foreground as well as back ground trees until they are far away enough that they are instead represented by a TGA designated as a distance texture.

Its more of an experiment, but i thought they looked pretty good in the foreground. i can't get a grasp on how they look when flying because they have those stripes, so it would be great to figure it out and better tailor the trees for some scenery.

I like it :-)

Yeah it's a shame about the tyre tracks though. Still, you will prevail I'm sure!

actually i was able to fix that. That was really a test run to and those trees actually turned out pretty leafy looking, but they didn't really capture the effect i was looking for.

I might rework those for a tropical/pacific map.

Here are some pine trees or Fur trees along with some added textures i made on the Italy_DF map, which i thought could use some work.
I might actually make a new map because the texture placement on the Italy map is kind of patchy. There are random patches of mountain top in the middle of a flat area where fields should be.
The city and country textures are also patchy because they needed to be blended to the color of the surrounding textures.
It looks way better when i matched the greens up, so that each texture has similar green channels.
I had to lighten the trees i made or they wouldn't be as visible.

There is enough area on the Italy map to get some good ideas for placement of textures on new map.
