Can the compass be removed?

You know that pesky little digital bearing indicator that is persistantly on the lower lefthand side of the screen.

I would like to see it go bye bye.

After all most aircraft have some kind of authentic looking compass in the cockpit somewhere.

I'll bet its something simple I overlooked, but I did a search and came up empty.

I can just imagine how much work it took to make the realistic looking compass do its magic, what a waste. Sad

Its also makes for better looking videos. Big Grin

One way of doing it would be to change this in your conf.ini:

[game]
Arcade=0
HighGore=1
mapPadX=0.6692708
mapPadY=-0.046296295
viewSet=34
Intro=0
NoSubTitles=1
NoChatter=0
NoHudLog=0 change to 1
NoLensFlare=1

This will also take away all warnings and info messages such as flap settings, overheat, throttle %, etc. so it may be a bit of an overkill if you still rely on those. Perhaps someone has another suggestion?

I found out what worked for me and my configuration.

Since I have UI 1.1 installed I just pasted

[Mods]
SpeedbarUnits=0

on to the end of my config.ini

Thanks for all the help. Big Grin

The problem that you have with the compass in the aircraft is that it is not always correct, and due to game visibility limitations some of them can't be seen correctly at all in some aircraft.. this may not be a major issue if you have good visibility down to ground level and you are a competant map reader.. However, when blind flying and using time/ speed/ distance calcs etc to get from A to B, having an accurate bearing is essential.
I've tried using the in cockpit compass many times to add to the realism, but it is 'out' quite a bit at times. Another problem we have when we try to be extra 'realistic' in game is that we can't 'set' the compass to establish true accuracy anyway..
