Okay, I've posted about this once before and that thread was shut down due to ethical matters last time. Let me get this straight... I believe that war is a horrible thing and that atomic bombs are horrible inventions. I am only suggesting this as a historic alternative and I hope that all who would create and use this would learn the awesome destructive power that such a weapon unleashes and never want it used. Details are sketchy, but this is the info I can find right now. If needed, I can dig up more stuff. Apparently, the bomb was supposed to be dropped from an Ar 234B.

Gee!
Then someone could make a mod of people wreathing around on the ground choking to death.Yeah!!! that would be fun.
Give it a rest man. Start working on your piloting skills.

Didn't I say that I didn't want this to become an ethical debate... What do you think the Silverplate mod is? What do you think the napalm bombs are? This is to consider the theoretical possibility of German aircraft like the Ar 234B being equipped with an atomic bomb from this project based off of the design given at the top of the original post. By the way, my piloting skills are just find thank you.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ALSOS

Quote:Operation Alsos was an effort at the end of World War II by the Allies (principally Britain and the United States), branched off from the Manhattan Project, to investigate the German nuclear energy project, seize German nuclear resources, materials and personnel to further American research and to prevent their capture by the Soviets, and to discern how far the Germans had gone towards creating an atomic bomb. The personnel of the project followed close behind the front lines, first into Italy, and then into France and Germany, searching for personnel, records, material, and sites involved.

...

In the end, Operation Alsos concluded that the Allies had surpassed the entire German atomic bomb effort by 1942. Compared to the Manhattan Project (one of the largest scientific and engineering projects in history) the German project was considerably underfunded and understaffed, and it is questionable whether Germany would have had the resources or concentrated research attention which the Allies used to produce such a weapon.

There was no Nazi bomb. It's pure fiction.

This is not meant as a personal attack--Deac

You need a PhD to be a historian and Irving doesn't have one.
I know that makes me sound like a jerk, but if you are going to put forward theories that contradict a consensus among historians you should know what you are talking about. Clearly, Irving has a political agenda. He is pro-fascist and anti-Semitic. (and that is saying it nicely)

So, there is no historical element here.

Sure the Nazis wanted a nuclear device.

Sure they knew what is was.

But the reason the Nazis didn't achieve a nuclear weapon was because Hitler instructed his physicists to dismiss Einstein's work as "Jewish" physics and so they went in a totally different direction. (Thank God). In short, the went down a blind ally.

If anyone is interested: there was a meeting in 1941 in Copenhagen between physicists Niels Bohr and Werner Heisenberg where they discuss the ethics of atomic research. See: Copenhagen, which is a play by Michael Frayn about their meeting.

(Irving is a complete bastard)

Deac, As you can see its already starting to go into an ethical debate. And no doubt you may be flamed in the process. So truthfully it wasn't a wise idea to post another thread on it when you would of got the same reactions now.

To be safe im gunna go ahead and lock this thread before it tumbles into some thing worse. If another Mod feels like it should be re-opened, then fair do's.
