I am confused about some FMB and QMB issues with CanonUK map
#1

I know that the CanonUK map is a veritable delight for us flight simmers and I really appreciate all the great work he has done. I am not about to whine it won't do this or that either, nor do I want to have "Fly-zo" get upset as he has locked the other thread on this map.

My confusion is this. I can get the map to load in FMB, but I do not know enough of the FMB to make great use of it yet. I can save the map and sit there on the ground once I select play, (like I said, I don't know FMB) which is good, cause now I know I am getting close to having it work right.

When I use QMB, I get the "wrong target" message when I try to fly. Next, the QMB shows up as "quick VER", is that correct? Lastly, there are only two maps in the map selection and they are both the Autumn Maps, should there be more?

I am using the locked post as a reference and any other information I can find about this, but now I seem to be going around in circles. I took a couple of days off from this and have re approached it today. Net result, map loads in FMB, saves and I can even launch the saved file, albeit without a plane or start point etc, but it works. That is just my lack of knowledge on FMB.

If some one can give me a push start in the right direction with regards to my questions, I am sure I will stumble on through Confusedhock:

Cheers for now,

Jeff

wrong target message from in the QMB means that there are no missions that have been made that are available to you for that selection.
You will need to download a set of missions ,although Canon's map did come with a few missions for the QMB I noticed they were for just one of his maps not both of them.

I take it you have the QMBPlus mod installed,
if so you need to read the readme as it explains that an entry needs to be made to the bottom of the Config.ini in order to have more maps in the QMB map list.
The readme for the QMBPlus explains how to do this.

I didn't quite understand what was your question (I'm poor in english :tongue: ) but if you want to know how to make missions in FMB look here:

I sympathise with your problems, Beachy. I spent the whole of yesterday d***ing around with the FMB to get some nice maps working (trying to make the ol' rednone/bluenone missions for QMB) but i can never get them to work, and yes, I have followed the instructions - so many instructions - to no avail before anyone jumps in) Nice link btw, Mr. Rampage sir.

In the end I ended up searching through hours of threads to find red and blue none's that had been done by other people and using them instead *sigh*.

I don't suppose it would be possible to have a sticky under the Missions section for d'loading QMB missions only would it? It would certainly help ensure that the great maps people are producing can reach as wide an audience as possible. The talented folks who've mastered FMB could then make their scramble/strike/airbase/none missions available via a link in their post in that thread... Just a thought.

I'm still struggling just trying to get the English Channel maps to load in FMB (which I'm trying to learn as well Beachy!). My game still crashes to desktop whenever I load Canon's Eng. Chan. without fail (at least I can count on something lol). I agree it would be great to have a quick mission download section available that would allow many to utilize these maps, which I hope I can soon prove myself worthy enough to open!

Cheers!

I had the game drop out to desktop until I re read the last post by fly_zo in the original locked post viewtopic.php?t=19663 In here I found that the file structure for BranTocs was wrong. I did it as per fly_zo's description and now no more crash to desktop. Still more to work on, but I am sure it is my lack of knowledge on a lot of what goes on in adding mods that is my issue. Persevere and take a day or two away, then come back refreshed. I also printed out all the workarounds that everybody had done and crossed them off if they did not work and found that helped me too.

Hey RNBeavis, I know how you feel, like going around in ever decreasing circle, isn't it Smile I think you have hit the nail on the head, "so many instruction", they make your head spin, and if one is fubar, it can turn your whole system upside down. I took a word from the wise and made several backups of the original and UI 1.1 patched versions so if it did go belly up, I could just copy and paste back into working mode once more.

The Pain, OH, the Pain!! :-?

WOO HOO!!! Got it working, not quite 3 hours since my last post. Ahhh, patience is a virtue Smile. well I got it working in QMB for now is what I mean to say. Finally found the "double B' in the static.ini, cleared that up. Tried launching the map in QMB, still got "wrong target", so I trolled through the original post and found somewhere around page 11 ish, Canons conf.ini listed. I compared to mine and found I was missing these four lines in the [Quick]

Custom5=Channel4041
Custom6=Channel4041W
Custom7=Channel4245
Custom8=Channel4245W

I cut and pasted them into my conf.ini and tried once more. First time I took a tigermoth and it was absolutely sweet, drop dead gorgeous. The tiger being a little slow, I decided a Spit would be more the go, so I chose the Mk 1 Spit, then I got the paratroop error and system locked up. Restarted and launched the game and now I got a message about "Data Execution Prevention" and saying windows will now close the program :? Now I am confused, but in task bar is IL2, so I click on that and game is running. So, I grab another Spit, MkV this time and launch with complete success again. I flew from Manston, to London and looked around, did the "Red Bull" under tower bridge, landed somewhere, took off and then finally ballsed up a landing a Biggin Hill. Only thing I found strange was the sound at Biggin Hill, I seemed to have an echoing sound, sort of like if you select Cave or Auditorium in your sound environment. Not a big issue and one I am sure I will get sorted, I generally don't fly outside of cockpit that much. Just hard not too, when you have countryside to view and so much to see.

Cheers for now, I need to see Stonhenge :lol:
