You're not alone with this - I've noticed some for me recently, with similar error message. Random inexplicable CTD, just like that *snaps fingers*.

I believe my problems were with my OC experiments with my CPU - purely from the timing. Have you done any overclocking recently? Here's a bit of mine; not quite the same but...

An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.

Well, you're not gonna believe it but lately I have an even weirder problem. It happens from time to time that when playing, I have a minimise to desktop. That's right, it's not a crash to desktop (luckily) but simply minimising the game, like if you would press the windows button but without actually pressing it. The good news is of course that I can remaximise the game just by clicking on the taskbar again but it's rather annoying, especially during tense dogfights or landings.
As I said, I know this sounds rather weird but it is the way it is. Has anybody else had this before?

Hi folks,
have the same issue since my ATI 4890.
After browsing some forums i got teached it is an open GL driver issue, exactly memory leaking driver.
That means at 2gig the game crashes (i am no programmer, so that is the idea i got after reading/getting teached)

So the following is what i already typed to 1CP Forums

Quote:Hi folks,
i treid to get at least a,little work around for the issue.I browsed AMD Forums, the problem of the leaking driver issue is well known to openGL appz, and they will take care for it ... when ever it means.

I am no HW pro nor a openGL freak or programmer, but the prob,as i understand right, the driver is leaking memory and so the exe collapses at >2gig.

I then "updated" my il2fb.exe with the 4gb patcher (am using 64bit) and running the game fine since a few days without CTD.

Perhabs it is a little helper until the patch 9.10 is released.
Coz as u have a look to that thread our prays have been heard:

and..

[quote]Hi folks,
ATI released due the release of the 5870series the new betas of 9.10RC7.
Compared to the RC6 the openGL driver got updated.
I didnt found the changelog but i hope the leaking OGL prob go already solved.
Will test it asap...means when i am off work.

Download ATI cat.9.10b RC7

Discussion at Guru3D

hope that helps to get rid off the ctd

Can be found here in the end of the thread somewhere. I''ve got no idea what it does though (am backing up by il2fb.exe then I'll give it a go).

http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread ... il2&page=2

From the website:

"4GB Patch
Date: 29/11/2007 Author: Daniel Pistelli
This very little tool patches x86 executables in order to let them have 4GB (instead of only 2) of virtual memory on x64 platforms. This tool comes very handy for applications which need a great amount of virtual memory like games, 3D renderization, multimedia etc. To gain these 2GB, you just have to use this tool to patch the executable (*.exe file) of the software you want to have these additional GBs of virtual memory. It can be used by clicking on it and choosing the file or through command line (e.g.: "4gb_patch file.exe"). It automatically creates a backup copy of the original executable."

EDIT: Nice. Il-2 still works. Couldn't tell you if it's genuinely made a difference or not though.

The 4gb patcher makes only sense fpr 64bit syste, though.
Nevertheless after AMD promise to fix the leaking memory issue, am gonna install the 9.10brc7 now....
