How to create a dual installation?
#1

I am wanting to do a fresh install to create a CRT2 compliant installation.
To prepare the ground I have not uninstalled the old fully modded set up. Just renamed the folder to c:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 - non CRT2
I really want to have two set ups. UI 1.1 CRT2 compliant and UI 1.1 with added mods.

When I insert the DVD I don't get an installation option, just an uninstall option.
Anyone know how to proceed?

you may have to rename the Ubisoft folder,
try Ubisoft_CRT2 and then try running the disc for another install.

I am running three installs,I will think more on how I did this as it was some time ago.

That didn't work. Must be something in the registry?

ashes, i've currently got 5 working versions. you can have as many as you want if you just copy the entire game folder somewhere else, rename and that's it. as far as installing a new version via windows, you will have to uninstall the existing install in oreder to do so.
so, just copy that entire install to somehere else, preferably outside of program files folder, then you can just run that copy from wherever you have put it. the one that gets uninstalled will then be the one in the default install folder....

Copy your game folder to somewhere else on your hardrive and rename the folder and create a shortcut and rename it.Check to see if you can play your newly moved and renamed game. Then unistall the Org. game folder with the disc.Install a new game and then copy the stock install game elsewhere on hardrive for back up.Copy as many stock installs as you want patching and modding them according to what you want creating your own shorcuts to the .exe's and renaming these shorcuts to reflect the versions there for.

This is the method I used although I keep my stock install game on an external drive for back up and the other game folders I use I have on other internal drives other than my CBig Grinrive.

I am running a 1.0 version and a 1.11 version as well as a specific map editor version for three installs of the game.

Edit>Pretty much like BigBossMolone stated

I have also run two mods and two files folders in one install ,renaming them back and forth to play either 1.0 or 1.11 with no ill effect running either version.

so they were named like so -files and -Mods.

This is the way to not only disable Mods in you mod folder ,but to disable any folder in the game IL2

I then run the UI 1.1 and let it install. All works fine and I can play 1.0 or 1.1 by renaming my two folder sets now.

This way you are only needing a couple extra folders to have both versions instead of Gig upon Gig
of a whole new game on your hardrive.Just the new Mod folder is just under 5 Gig the files folder is so small it`s irrelevant.

It all works fine for me with out the need for two complete installs of the game.

Thanks for the tips. I decided to copy the entire folder.
When I set it up originally I installed the mods through JGSME so I've used that to reverse the installation to 4.08 unmodded standard. Seems to work ok, and I still have MAT Manager installed Smile

Its going to take another day to download all the UI 1.1 files. Part04 is currently arriving.
So I will clean up the folder and get rid of all the old mods stuff before installing the new UI 1.1 on top.

As long as you have an install in the registry it will not re-install.
If you want a fresh install then you can delete the registry entries.... re-install ....and it SHOULD still work OK for your old folder too
or maybe just try renaming the registry entry instead of deleting it...to be reversed in case of trouble

Easy way.

Change name first instalation folder. Then put DVD and make uninstal (?Smile). This will make uninstal only few things from c\programsfiles\ubisoft but a game (with changing name) will be safe. Then put DVD again and you can install new game when you want.
