Hi,

I'm deeply sorry but this is what we call artifacts. And I'm afraid I have to inform you that it means that your graphics card had its time and needs to be replaced.
You can always try with installing the latest driver for your graphics card and check your cooling but in most cases artifacts mean that you have to get a new graphics card.

Edit: I forgot, you have the latest driver already so it means cooling or more likely get a new graphics card.

What Endtyme said but also open your case and clean out any dust that may have accumulated. Compressed air works well. Try and get any dust that has gathered in any heat sink fins especially. Use compressed air carefully though, just get those dust bunny's looking for a new home.

However they do make some interesting modern art don't you think? (he says trying hard to find any kind of silver lining)

Hello Crimeatiger.

As I am experimenting the same artifacts ( only in 1946 , Fresh or modded ) could you please be more explicit and provide a step by spep explanation.
I have no problem with FS 2004 and Lock On.
To make it short ... How to proceed ?
Is this process above average for a non pro ?

I would be glad if this would work as I already tried every other way (Dust, heat , driver etc... Sad )

My specs are
Windows XP Sp2
Asus P4P8OO
Intal P4 3.2Ghz
2Gig RAM
Nvidia 7800GS

Thanks a lot

i suspect u changed the graphics card from ATi to nVidia maybe?

in Game Setup u choose nVidia to be your graphics card?

i remember having those anomalies when i changed from nVidia to ATi without reconfiguring the game

adjusting from nVidia settings to ATi worked

it will work adjusting from ATi to nVidia as well of course!

I have this occasionally on older games.

I would say HEAT. Open your computer case and have a fan blow through it.

I had the same problem and fixed it by letting the game manage the anisotropic filtering, not the video card.
You should be able to set this up with your video card control software.
It will say something like
"Anisotropic filtering=application managed"

Hi -
If you can do the following tests:
1. Download some 3-d game demo, like Crysis (really puts your card to the test), and see if you get the same problem. If the other 3-d games run fine, your card is OK. Go to #5.
2. Try going to an earlier driver - like 185.something - i had problems with the latest-greatest.
3. If other 3-d games have the same problem (as IL-2), download something like EVGA Precision (Google it, i think it's still freeware). It lets you monitor your GPU temperature & a bunch of other stuff as you're running IL-2 (the data's displayed in top left corner of the screen by default. Unless your temperature is climbing past ~70C, you're fine, heat-wise, though do follow the advice the other folks gave you - do clean out all the heatsinks on your computer about once every couple of months - your computer is basically a vacuum cleaner, with all the dust getting stuck in the heatsinks, especially in graphic cards, because the fins are really fine & close together - an ideal vacuum cleaner bag.
4. Pull your card out, disconnect the power. If you can use a screwdriver, you can do it. look into the slot where it sits - is it clean? do any of the contacts look bad? Now put it back in, make sure that it's *fully* seated & the little catch at the front of the slot is in the notch of the card. Push down hard - you won't hurt anything. Re-connect the power connector. Make sure it's fully seated. Fire up the computer, and see if it's still bad. If it is, Nvidia has a great return policy, exchange the card.
5. If the card's fine, move the entire Ubisoft folder from your programs directory right to your desk top, and install a fresh copy of IL-2. If the problem is gone, you've got some corrupted files in your original install. If not, delete the new install, and put your original Ubisoft folder back.
6. I can't think of anything else - hope this helps.
