ui 1.2 comment
#31

I shouldn't even dignify this thread with a post but I find it distasteful to put a poll up about how you are disappointed about something you haven't even gotten yet. The fact that we had to test all the stuff that is included to make sure you wouldn't have anything that is buggy or causes unnecessary lag from errors in the background that would generate complaints seems kind of useless now that you're already complaining for what you didn't get.
Now the 4.09 that 's something really important we get what: Avia B-534-IV (flyable), Fokker D.XXI - 5 versions (Only SARJA 3 Early and Late flyable), I-16 Type 5 and 6 + Ski version (flyable), SM.79 (flyable) that's 4 planes, plus finished versions of the 4.09 maps, some flak trains and a few minor changes to the game itself which includes FM's and some Graphics, wow.
If you were getting this stuff as Christmas gifts I'd return them. You should really get a life. Frankenplanes might be great for some but they are not up to the quality that represents this sim or Oleg's level of modeling in it so they are not going to be in a Unified Installer, and Cannons Map is almost as big an install as the entire 1.2 so if you want it you can install it separately because it comes with it's own set of problems and I'll leave it at that. I hope I've covered the bases on this thread and please somebody lock it as it's really insulting to everyone who contributed to this.

1. this entire thread was to see if anybody agreed with me.
2. i'm not a fan of frankenplanes. i never wanted them included in ui.
3. i never mentioned cannon's map. i've never even tried it, due to the fact that it is so big.
4. why did you through 4.09 in there?
5. you don't like this topic then IGNORE IT
The original ui was amazing... a real time saver. All this does is add some new cockpits, variations of planes you can already fly, and mods that are only useable online. What i'd be interested in would be a single player/co-op version of ui that has some of the missions and campaigns that have been created and put them out there. It seems to me that AAA hasn't given them much credit for what they've done.

"What i'd be interested in would be a single player/co-op version of ui that has some of the missions and campaigns that have been created and put them out there. "

If you did not know, you can install additional campaigns at anytime. All one needs to do is go to mission4today or lowengrin.

Now, seeing that people download the campaigns as well as those that create campaign I would not be surprised that someone creates a 345th BG strafer campaign escorted by 475th P38G's. On the same note, the same P38G's would more than likely appear in a Mediterranean campaign along with the early 109Trops variants. So as you see there is a reasoning to the 1.2 plane list. Of course I have not even mentioned the possibilities of the 8th AF P51's as they have 150 octane.

Now as to why the jets are not in as I have noted profusely on the forums, the jets were not complete at the 1.2 timeframe. Moreover I was asked by the authors not to release them as they were still working on their updated releases.

To add to the complexity, we also needed Jafa to finish his sound pack for 1.2 and this too included the jet sound which many have seen and heard in the 1.2 preview (Mig/F86) You Tube.

Another issue was time, much of the content in 1.2 has been debugged along with some of the 1.1 older aircraft. This will help the performance of the game as many of the exceptions are far fewer.

Wednesday is the release target date.

Amen to that... I'd love to take out a P-38G to escort the B-25D Strafers and I hadn't even thought of that till now. Plus, I'd love to take the P-38H for a spin over Italy or Normandy... Just out of curiosity since I don't fly them too much and I'm not as knowledgeable on the subject as, say the Mustang... How accurate and well modeled are the P-38J and P-38L in the game? Where we're getting so many early Lightnings, I thought it would be good to see if the later ones needed some reworking. Just the 8th with the P-51? There's the 9th, 5th, not to mention the IAF, RAF, RAAF, and USAF SAC... Absolutely endless possiblities... Plus there's all those Spit updates and one of my personal favorites to use or destroy, the Bf 109K-6.

As far as I'm aware they're okay, there's a lot of whining about the effects of compressibility on the Lightning, but I'm not sure how justified this is. I think it's more a problem of Oleg's selective modelling syndrome, where he'll model the effects of compressibility on one aircraft because it was a problem that was especially noted on that aircraft (which may be justified on the '38 given its rather low limiting Mach number), but without much examination into its effects on other aircraft apart from the notable exception of the 109 based upon testimony from British flight-test reports that the elevator became very heavy at high speeds...it's useful to know, but given that these reports are likely to be taken as a comparison between the 109 and the Spitfire, it's perhaps not a surprising conclusion given that the Spit has a very light elevator to start with, and one of the highest tactical Mach numbers of the war (about 0.8, by comparison the Lightning's tactical Mach number was about 0.68 ). It's not that they're badly modelled, it's that no other aircraft are so badly affected by the same phenomena, I believe. From Eric Brown's book:
"We knew from tests at RAE on captured German fighters that the Me 109 and Fw 190 both had a tactical Mach number of 0.75, so that figure was the name of the combat game at 30,000 feet. The tests we conducted on the American fighters revealed that the Lightning and Thunderbolt fell well short of that figure, with tactical Mach numbers of 0.68 and 0.71 respectively. However, the Mustang with its laminar-flow wing achieved 0.78 tactically..." It's strange, the Spitfire in the game falls apart before reaching the speed at which RAE flight tests determined it became difficult to maneuver. Some of the Vne speeds in the game seem to be just best-guesses, really.
I think DT are looking into high-altitude and high-speed flight characteristics, though. Big Grin

Deac Wrote:Bland, how so? You can escort bombers over Germany and Japan in the one of the P-51D sub-variants or dive bomb Korean guerillas in an F-51D-30NA. You can take down trains, bombers, fighters, or tanks in any of the new and improved 109's... Then, why not go on a raid in your glass-nosed B-25J in the Mediterranean or take out one of the gunships for a bit of hunting in the Pacific. Or, perhaps you'd like to take out some of the early P-38's in Africa, Europe, the Pacific, or the Med... UI 1.2 has enough to keep everyone busy for a while... Besides, there are some surprises not on the main list... Oh yeah, I am waiting for Slow's Bf 109 Rammjagger that will be in UI 1.3. That will be alot of fun...

In german = auf deutsch: Rammjaeger

You hate landings? lol

you hit it on the nail ArcticWolf

FREE Confusedhock: for anyone who uses stuff like MS Flight Sims the idea of pre packaged add-ons for free is fantastic, they usually have to pay for them. Apart from the early add-ons for IL-2 [ACES etc] as the sim grew , everything since has been FREE , official or otherwise.

This has always been IL-2's strength when it comes to continuing to expand the sim. Anything that comes my way for free is not something I'm going to complain about. Be it 4.09m Official or UI 1.2 , if it does not have the latest version of my favourite plane....so what......ITS FREE

much Kudos to the makers and compilers.....good on you.....next round is on me 8)

I read the subject line of this, and my jaw fell.

I don't often get embroiled with 'popcorn' threads, but to be honest I have to comment on this and say I cannot believe anyone would post this topic!

IL2 was on it's arse when the modders got involved. Years of requests for flyable B-17's, smoke effects, better AI, etc, etc, and all we got from Oleg was we're working on SOW and when we reach a critical point we'll release 4.09.

If you'd posted about how many extras were in 4.09 (compared to 1.2/1.3), I'd have backed you, but seriously how lame a question you have posted!

These guys aren't paid to create these mods, they do it through enthusiasm and dedication to improve for us a flight sim that we know was good, but needed a helping hand to make it great.

I have talked at length with Monguse about 1.2 (and 1.3 to come) and the improvements are immense, as-well as all the new and free models that are being added. This UI is without doubt so-much more important than 4.09, it contains many things (one of which I can't say....but oh-my it's been an issue for YEARS!!) that will bring the game back to the masses of flight sims who want graphics, planes and realism. This Mod is an evolutionary step for this series which is FREE and paid for only in the gratitude we offer back in comments to the guys who spend hours (and 'Guse spends HOURS! as others do), answering questions and tweaking the crap they had to start with, to bring simmers the game they always wanted.

Wait until it comes out, THEN post this question once you have seen and appreciated all the effort that has been put in improving 1.1 and then make a post outlining how disappointed you are at the work they have done for no fiscal gain.

Salute the modders, MP.

I for one am looking forward to the UI 1.2 pack. Plenty to play with. Im looking forward to trying the SPifire XIV. Cant believe this was left out of the original game given that Oleg was most obsessive in giving the Luftwaffe its latest fighters right up to the last weeks of the war but left out a major Spitfire variant.

One question I have is about the 50 cals. I understand changes have been made (possibly making them moe lethal) will this apply to all 50 cals in the game or only those on the modded planes?

Anyhoo roll on wednesday and slow interweb speeds as everyone tries to download the UI!!

Gents, I'd ask you to please not start putting down the 4.09 patch, comments like that aren't really needed, and your argument for the fact that the mods are free etc, so please be greatful are completely applicible to the efforts of Team Diadalos (sp?) as well. The patch was developed by a 3rd party for the benefit of the community. They'll continue to make patches too,a nd many of the benefits of the patch (like scripted effects) haven't been fully appreciated by the community yet.

Annoying the annoying, so you don't have to.

Apart from the views on the 4.09 extras, Im with Mysticpuma on this- what an idiotic thread.

You are getting offered something that has taken alot of blood sweat and tears, for free, and your complaining already.

We have an old saying about 'not looking a gift horse in the mouth'.

Get a grip.

I've edited my post slightly so it reads how I meant it to. I'm not complaining about 4.09, just that when you compare how many extras you get in the 4.09 compared to 1.2....blimey how can you honestly complain?

Flashman, I think you make the mistake in thinking the 50-cals will be more lethal....they may just be more accurately modelled, but who knows? (well the modders do obviously!) Wink

Cheers, MP>
