MiG-15 and F-85 Sabre Issues (post them here)
#31

Here are some visual bugs I've noticed since yesterday...
Sabre: From a certain point of view the glass of the winshield and canopy seems to disappear.
MiG: a) The contrail is misalligned several meters to the port side.
b) The reticle...
See picture bellow:

I saw that gunshight issue earlier, but I can't remember the fix...

There was a fix on SAS site(for the old Rawners MiG-15). I've got the problem with the contrails too(I'll try without HG&Potenz effects).

The canopy disappears like that on a lot of modded aircraft and possibly even original ones i can't remember. At certain angles and distances it ends up disappearing.

Mig 15, nice a/c, swell handling. However I noticed that the canopy does not open. Is just me or has anyone else noticed this?

I've just noticed a very strange behaviour of auto-releasing airbrakes of MiG-15. Brakes are deploying at aproximately 850 km/h at 1000 m altitude, and at aproximately 650 km/h at 10 000 m altitude. In older thread on this forum PeterD said he'd been going to make brakes deploying at 0,92 Mach speed. I think it means that brakes should auto-deploy at 1130 km/h (1000 m) and 980 km/h (10 000 m). Am I wrong?

The airbrakes are deploying depending on the mach number, not the indicated airspeed...

Both aircraft are well done besides the already posted bug with that thing at the tailpipe,
but when i first flew both aircraft 2 or 3 times i thought it would be impossible to take down a mig.
She accelerates faster turns tigher and takes /gives more punishment than the sabre does,
while the sabres only advantage is her speed and maybe her climbrate.

Is this realistic or do some of you think there would be some changes needed.

Btw:I'm average pilot ...neither good or bad, but its very very very hard to get the upper hand in a "dog"fight against the mig.
But at least it was possible in the sixth try^^.

Unless they are supposed to act like this, I think there is a problem with the MiG-15 auto-airbrake.

I was testing a high altitude (8000m) intercept mission
on the Korea map and the airbrakes were randomly deploying at speeds as slow as 655kph. I was just cruising along when all of a sudden they deployed.

Even when I tested the mission on autopilot, the AI would deploy the airbrakes at these lower speeds.

Below is a very small test mission so you can see it for yourself. When the mission starts, just hit your autopilot command. When the plane reaches 655kph, the airbrakes will deploy.

Now, I can put the F-86 at the same altitude (8000m) and it will run at 810kph and not break up. So, I think that alone should tell you that the auto-airbrake implementation is incorrect. I hope you can follow what I am trying to say in this example, as I am not an aeronautical expert. However, I believe this is the correct assumption.

My guess is that using the mach number as the trigger for the auto-airbrake is not the way to go.

Below is the same test mission, but now with the F-86 as the Player plane. When the mission starts, just hit your autopilot command. You will see that the F-86 will reach a max speed of 810kph at that altitude (8000m). Compare this to the max speed of the MiG-15 before the auto airbrake deploys (655kph). Obviously there is something wrong.

Aviar the airbrakes auto deploy on the Mig-15 due to Mach Number which is different to your indicated and true air speed. So it will be differently read at different heights. Mig-15 cannot pass through sound barrier without breaking up hence it is auto deployed. In real life they were deployed on mach number....

F-86 is fine to go through the sound barrier so it doesn't deploy at all and goes faster than the MiG-15 given a slight dive etc...

Nebukadnezar the MiG-15 is far superior to the F-86 which is correct. Later versions of the F-86 matched it more closely. The mig lost in air battles due to inexperienced pilots and training. Otherwise it would be pretty much clean sweep and a lot of dead F-86s...

PeterD I have found a slight problem or what I believe to be one anyway. Flying online in a 4.09b1m game 3 of us have the F-86 and the Mig-15 but we can't see each other in it. So we're basically all invisible :S any ideas? I've checked the installation and re installed it and it's more than one of us so seems to be a problem.

Fighting against the AI MiG-15 is rather frustrating since it manages its energy extremely well. You'll be dragged into an endless climbing pursuit which is boring and you cannot win (well, most of the time). Stay fast and relatively low... the MiG won't be able to catch you ever. You can always pull more Gs in the Sabre too, unless you are carrying droptanks (say bye to your wings), so you have an advantage in turns

Aviar
The MiG calculates when to pop the airbrakes as follows:

Reads the vectorFlow from the FM, whatever that is
calculates the square root of the length of vflow, let's call this "A"
and finally,

mach_number = (A / current_atmospheric_sonic_speed_at_current_altitude)
if mach_number > 0.91, pop the airbrakes.

Have you tried ANY other map? in my tests in Crimea it worked allright

Yes, I just tried it on the Crimea map (see test mission below). The results were exactly the same. I think you will soon have a lot of Mig pilots screaming at you, because once they try dogfighting the F-86 at higher altitudes, their auto-airbrakes will not allow them to reach maximum speeds. The F-86 will fly circles around them...)

Then they'll just love it when I down them in an F-51D-30NA or a F-84G-2RE after they try to jump me...

The gunsight can be fixed by removing RANWERS MiG-15 Frankenplane. You can also download RANWERS new cockpit for the new MiG and you will also fix the problem.
