UI 1.2 Sounds

Ltforce Wrote:I must agree the 1.2 sounds are horrible!!! But when I try to reinstall the JAFA 1,2, and Yak Sounds...none of them work....its still the crappy 1.2 sounds. I just put all the PRS in the preset folder and SAMPLES in the sample folder like I have before...it seems to overwrite them, but its not changing anything I still have the bad 1.2 sounds???Did the change the names of all the sound files??

read the 2nd post in the thread, mate

try changing the sounds instead of the pointers to the sounds

Thrud Wrote:1 bug that has been found is that the internal sounds of some guns and the external sounds of them have been switched accidently.

Could u tell us what sounds have been switched so we could change them back to normal? thx

I very much hope there is a way to get default sounds back soon.
The 1.2 sounds are killing the game for me.

Is there a way to find exactly which sounds are used by the aircraft?? I know all their engine models but Im not sure if the spitfire is using the Packard merlin sound or the RR merlin sound etc...and the VK107 sound is crap!!! I want the yak 9u to sound like it has a vk105....do i need a software to see which aircraft use which preset??

Great news, I have all the Jafa 1,2 DB600 and Yak sounds back in UI 1.2. I went through and edited all the PRS files that I needed to and placed all the Jafa samples back in. Sounds great. I could upload if somone points me where to and if anyone is interested but you need all the JAFA sound mods so you can have the proper sample files but I took care of all the PRS files!!!

In addition, levels were weird with guns sounding quiet in comparison to engines. I opened up the sound settings from within Il-2 and turned down master volume and objects volume to somewhat less than half and turned up voices volume to max (I always have music off). I have to have my speakers at a higher volume level than normal, but all the distortion is gone and engine volume sounds more normal. 50 cals still sound weird to me, but that may be a specific bug as mentioned. I'm not enamored with all the sounds, but they certainly don't sound bad.

I have noticed the same thing. The problem is due to the sound files being saved in formats that the Il-2 game is not designed to use. It is a common issue among people who produce these sound mods. Few seem to understand the limitations and save their samples in any old format. The cracks, pops and shrieks are the tortured screams of a game engine designed to play 11000mhz mono sound samples, as it struggles to play large wav files saved in stereo, or audio frequencies way over it's maximum.

I dissagree , through out the time ive bin sound moddin , gettin pure sounds without background noise is paramount , which mostly comes from two areas , the first and most common is bad audio splices , the second is over volume when when finalising an audio edit which although im guilty of editin right up to the limit I try to keep to an absolute minimum , I used to release my sound mods with an mono and stereo option and 22 or 48 mhz as well , but after many years of playin and testin the 22mono theory out against the 48 stereo , I haven bin able to find any decernable differance in sound or game play , the.....we must go to mono scare mongering has been used many times in the past and is still is doin the rounds.
AS for my sounds and AAA they will go to a 22 mono as soon as im back up and running cos my boss here made that request of me to keep the punters happy but my site will also have the stereo option as well so ill do my best to look into the 1.2 probs when I get back......

Quote:these files here (you can edit them in notepad)
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 mod\files\presets\sounds

I have edited the presets files in notepad. There is a [spl] value, for example

[spl]
105

which seems to be sound pressure level value in dB for EXTERNAL VIEW. Lowering this number makes engine or weapon mixed in game sounds quieter, without the need to edit the samples (which is way more time consuming).

BUT, UNFORTUNATELLY I don't know how to do the same thing for lowering sounds in INTERNAL (inside COCKPIT) view, which is far more important. There is a file aircraft.cockpit.prs with [spl] constant, but lowering it does not seem to have any effect Cry

Does anyone know how to edit presets for internal view sounds?

I was glad to see a thread about this...

Personally my biggest pet-peave are the MG151/20's. I tried replacing the sound files in the samples folder, but it keeps playing the sounds that I'm trying to get rid of. Must I do something with the preset files too? Anyone figure this out?
