Okinawa repainted - V2 Under way 7 february 2010
#16

Great map Redko, it has given me new sensations IL2 had never given before, I have just tested it in some high altitude missions of PhilK. It resist quite well the low altitude specially the countryside, and definitely is MUCH BETTER than the original textures, in my opinion. Some constructive comments / suggestions:

- More tweaking needed for 'tiling' effect in some textures?
- The 'buildings' textures seem a little bit modern to me but maybe I'm wrong. Obviously if they are current google earth images I don't know if they reflect the extension of cities and type of buildings of the Okinawa cities in 1945
- Maybe less contrast in some countryside field textures?

Definitely a good map anyway, good work!

Installs easily, runs great. Swell job. Like to see more like this. Reminds me of some of the pay-ware scenery for MSFS, only better. Thanx!

Thanks WhiteCate. Your constructive critics are welcome.

Well the problem for the bildings textures is real. The question is where to find more historical cities texture ? My first objective was to end definitly with the desertic landscapes and make desapear the stock cities textures which never gives me the feeling to really fly over a city. The thing is that i try to take my textures in the same place to make it coherent. So as I started for the mountains and country to use 100% local textures of actual Okinawa....i also used local textures for the cities which of course are too modern . Anyway i'm NOT satisfied by the actual rendering, we will see if i can do better.

In the same way there is less cities textures on the map than i found in google earth...South of Okinawa is for exemple today full of cities it's incredible. I guess it wasn't the case in 1941, so i puted more agricilture texture than city textures for the South to balance it.

I'll try to find something better for cities.

For contrast I agree. I will fix it.

 . Glad you liked. This will evolve, so this is not the end now  . improvements will come.

I guess you wait for this one too, you remember ? Kyushu, some new pics :

There is some volcano textures here...this is my first try with this map. I started this map some days before RealDarko asked for a new retextured Okinawa so it let this one down for some days. I retake the project. With the experience obtained with Okinawa I can do better now for Kyushu, specially for the rocks and volcano aspect. There is more space in this map, so retexturing will be easier an i think better in terms of result.

So these pics come from the first try for Kyushu....wait and see..... 8). I dream to remap Iwo Jima too.

Just a matter of days ....i have to apply to this older project what i learned for Okinawa......and soon for download

Thanks to ALL the people i don't mention. Your good feedbacks works as encouragements on me. Other nice maps will come Smile .

redko - is the actors static for this Okinawa map from the original map or from LAL_Rone's? I ask because the damage model for the maps appears to be different - if you try the damage brush on the original map, and then try to replace it with LAL's, the damage disappears.

The adjective 'Awesome' would be an understatement... You've made maxed-out FSX look ugly...

Cheers
