As i find boring the extracting map process, and more than that i don't have the 100% knowledge for that I used the file from LAL_Rone right. RealDarko gave me another extracted version of this map but it isn't this one.

In fact I used Lal_Rone map for base because he says he reworked the mountains and i'm looking for a version of Okinawa with volume, as the stock map is desesparatly too flat. . I'm still looking for a version with higher mountains....or to learn by myself how to do that.

Yep, I use Bender's cloud mod. Easy to recognize 'cause it looks a bit like cotton balls. I used to have Flushy's cloud mod but for whatever reason I have some problems with it. I have to sort that out when I'm in the mood for it. As an alternative I use Bender's.

Hello Redko.... My favorite spot to create a mission is either the Okinawa mainland, a aircraft
carrier off the coast of Okinawa or Ie Shima, a small island off Nago. So I was quite excited
when I read that someone had made a new map of Okinawa. Please dont take this as negative
criticism because it certainly isnt meant to be. I was stationed on Okinawa twice and IeShima
once while serving in the U.S.A.F. and it is one of my most favorite spots on earth. I have always
wondered why Kadena isnt mentioned as a city on Okinawa. It is the biggest city on the island.
While I was stationed on IeShima I used to love to climb the mountain they had there. It was
bigger and flatter on top than in the map. I used to watch the F105's from Kadena practice firing
their machine guns at the targets we set up on the north beach. You could see the tracers before
you heard the purr of the guns. When we went to the mainland we took a ferry to Nago a small
town back then but from what i just read it has grown considerably...... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nago,_Okinawa
From there we took a bus to Kadena. I wish the map showed the ferry docking ports at both IeShima
and Nago. Also, the island of IeShima has a lot of trees on it as well as a smaller town at the far
western end of it. We wern't allowed to go there since it was a communist run town.

Anyway, thank you oh so much for your great efforts on this map. It brings back some wonderful memories.

Well you need to be careful if you used LAL_Rone's static actors, because if someone tries to use it in an existing mission or campaign, the mission might not work properly. I've tried converting missions I've made for LAL_Rone's map onto the original map, and if there has been any areas that have been subjected to the damage brush, then what happens is the damage disappears, the player isn't given a plane to fly in, and any front lines also disappear. Basically the .mis file is corrupted.

So it's possible to use this map to overwrite the LAL_Rone map (by calling it LAL_Okinawa) but not to overwrite the original map.

Hum.....interresting. Thanks for posting, I like history so feel free to post here all interresting stories or informations, always interrested and useful.

Don't worry for "critics" I posted this map exactly because I NEED it to evaluate the work done, and see with you what to change or improve. Confronting to critics is a natural part of the creatiion process whatever the field is.

The thing is that for the moment i'm only a "map retexturer". I don't know how to create a map from zero, or modify the topology, cities or names of places....i'm still learning  . I know Okinawa as nothing in common today to what it was 50 years ago. If i would have respected by the numbers the actual state of Okinawa by checking it in google earth, i would have totally and fully recover the south of Okinawa with cities textures. Which it's no the case because i know it wasn't so at that period.

I will see what i can do for the presence on the map of Kadena. I can make it appear by mapping it, i will have to find how to name it in the map after. I'm preparing an update for this map anyway. It's for very soon i hope Smile .

Just curious, when did you serve on Okinawa? Was you a pilot ?

ps: Sorry for my english. I'm french and i speak english like a cow....

Just plain amazing... that's all I can say... Looks awesome from all altitudes. My only gripe is that the city textures don't really fit with the rest of them, but that's just a tiny problem... this map it beautiful! I finally have a use for Okinawa! Thank you SOOOOO much, I can't wait to see your other projects! Big Grin

*By the way, yes those were my Ki-84 skins- makes me feel great to see them used in your screens Big Grin

Ohh thanks. I was shure it was Jaypack44 work. Other skins pixelise when to close of the "camera". I choosed them for purpose  . I'm one of your big fans.

For cities textures they are bad. They came from Kyushu map but i used in Okinawa only 2 types of texture instead or 4 Kyushu. Transitions between centre city, mid and suburb is better on this map.

Anyway I will change it for the update. I juste wanted to finish this map for this weekend to post it. I was urged to have feedbacks.

So stay tuned...

Yes, renaming it with a prefix will do. If you want to keep it as "Okinawa" I think you'd have to use the actors static from the original Okinawa map (which looks exactly the same as on the LAL_Rone map). I don't understand why there is a difference with the damage brush between the two maps to be honest - it seems very strange.

I found that the simplest way to adjust the height overall upon any map is to load the map_h.tga into Photoshop and slightly alter the contrast...more contrast...more height.....

nice pic of Hitler there Philk Tongue
