[BETA] MiG-15 and F-86A-5 (V2, included in HSFX4.1)

Just a heads up, new versions will be out very soon, with most bugs ironed out (no, cockpits aren't ready yet) Smile

Cool. I think I saw this question asked once before but never saw a reply. Will the MiG-15 ever get drop tanks? I've been building missions and they run out of fuel so quickly. Thank goodness the Sabre has them. That Korea map is so large. Without extra fuel, the MiG's can barely get to their target and back again.

I was looking at a bunch of pictures on the internet the other day and saw so many MiG-15's with drop tanks and so I just had to ask.

Keeping the pedal to the metal :wink: How about tanks for Fagot?

Oh, Aviar thinking about some Smile

How about getting a later war F86 put together Peter? I heard the FM's were actually done for a couple of versions..

What do you think he means by new versions. They will most likely include later variants with bigger engines and a flying tail.

By 'new versions', I think PeterD means updates to both beta planes (to fix bugs). I don't think he means new variants.

I haven't had much time lately to do anything, so that is one of the things they will be missing (visually). I'll see if I can update the 3D models in less than a month, if only it wasn't so awfully messy... Sad

Well, PeterD says the MiG's auto-airbrake will be disabled. If this is true, I'm wondering how he will handle the MiG AI following the Sabre in a severe dive.

In reality, the MiG could not do this without breaking up. This is why the auto-airbrake was installed. If the MiG AI can follow me (in a Sabre) when I take it down in a severe dive without breaking up, I will be very upset. This would be totally unrealistic. Personally, I would not put the MiG-15 in any more of my missions.

On PeterD's site, he says this about the MiG auto-airbrake:

"...but more importantly, it wasn't very accurate apparently since it wasn't present in the 1950 model."

Well, in all my research, I have never seen this mentioned. I was always under the impression that the auto-airbrakes were implemented from the very start. That does not mean I cannot be wrong. However, I sure would like to see where he got this information. Besides, the MiG(bis) is a later-model. So PeterD, just when was the auto-airbrake supposedley implemented?

PeterD, I'm sorry to have to say this, but I told you from the start that I thought your implementation of the MiG auto-airbrake was incorrect. I also warned you that you would be getting many complaints from the MiG pilots. Well, it looks like this has come to pass ("...which was upsetting many people ...").

It will be interesting how you will eliminate something that was historically correct (the auto-airbrake) and yet still have an accurate FM.

Now, I apologize if I come off as sounding confrontational. Nothing could be further from the truth. My style is simply to speak my mind and express my thoughts. My main goal is to help you release the best plane possible for the community to enjoy.

Again auto-brake was installed only on one test prototype of 15bis, and there is no mention about it in any kind of docs including technical instruction, researches and memories. MiG has control troubles on M=0.87-0.93, but MiG can do at least M=1.03. We just need hight speed things like heavy stick loading, invert rudder reaction etc. to be modeled.

Aviar.....Diving away from a fight is lame anyways. Grow a pair and fight...............Who cares about such a little detail. The fact is your complaining that you can't run away......FAIL!

I'm sorry you are so sensitive about this issue, but I don't think it's such a big deal. I don't recall reading any of your research, but I hope it is better than your last "research" on True Air Speed.

So when was the automatic airbrake supposedly implemented you ask? This is what Narvik found about it:
Quote:MiG-15 (izdeliye SA-4) - Development Model;
revised instrument panel;
in-flight engine restart mechanism implemented;
automatic airbrake extension system for speeds above Mach 0.95.

First of all, in our sources is told that SA experimental series was made only to adapt OSP-48 ILS landing systems to MiG-15bis, and there are no mentions about
any automatic airbrake extension system. But some sources claim that SA-4 became a standard for MiG-15bis fighters equipped with OSP-48. So, there is some possibility, that
automatic airbrake extension system was installed on some later-production MiG-15bis fighters with OSP-48 ILS landing systems (if information from Militaryfactory is true).
Do you have any documents that contradict this information Aviar?

I feel sorry for you. Some of the greatest fighter pilots in histroy knew when it was time to "cut and run" to survive a fight. The better pilots always knew how to use their planes advantages. It's not cowardice to dive away and then re-engage when you are able to once again have an advantage.

The Corsair could dive faster than the Zero. Pilots were trained to use that in fighting with the Zeros. Are you calling the Navy and Marine pilots who fought in WW II that used that technique cowards?
