Before anyone attacks me for posting this once again, I will tell you that my install was working perfectly yesterday, I not installed anything, or touched the buttons, plane, weapons or air.ini files, but my game CTD at 60% now. The only thing different was that I installed some MS runtimes:

Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Common Controls

and now my game CTD. Any idea??

Do what I do, just restore previous version of windows from control panel. that's what works for me...

A System Restore might help but I dont guarantee it.

Click on START - PROGRAMS - ACCESSORIES - SYSTEM TOOLS - System Restore and then select a restore point a few days before your problem began. This only affects the Registry though.
