[Download] Iwo-Based P-51 Generics
#1

HI all, just thought I'd share these- with the release of Redko's new Iwo Jima map, and the upcoming Kyushu map, I figured my Ki-84s would need something to dogfight against, so I started working on one of my old templates. This is the result- I've done generically numbered packs for all three P-51 groups based on Iwo- the 15th, 21st, and 506th. The skins are'nt meant to represent any specific a/c from these groups, they are just meant to be generic skins for use in missions and such. Each pack includes four skins form each squadron in the group, as well as unnumbered versions of the squadron skins. I've come across some references for these groups as well, so I may end up doing some a/c specific skins as well if I find the time.
Anyway, hope you all enjoy these, as always, any kind of feedback is appreciated. Thanks for looking Smile

There will also be more pacific and CBI-based unit generics to some, so stay tuned Wink

*Special thanks to Jarink for making the 506th skins that I used as a sort of template- I never could have matched up all those stripes myself! Wink

Hey Jaypack, just a question.

do you ever use in photoshop a filter called sea, or wave ?

take a look to this :

viewtopic.php?t=22823

I'm not sure that THIS is what this guy used but it's very close to what i get when I do some edited pics to simulate hot temperatures coming out from the engines and deforming the air......

Here this guy seems to use it not for the air but to simulate the imperfections of METAl......so it renders really like real painted metal.

What do you think about that?

This kind of effect would be terrible with your skyns !! Smile

It's because it is real metal from a mustang chopped up and put on the the IL2 skin, thats why they call it photoreal.

Its never really been done in IL2 as we tend to go for more war weary looks and the lighting in game isnt Dynamic enough to pull it off.
But for an Airshow skin and to take screenshots it looks very effective.

hum....ok.

I never did skins but i'm shure i will be able to simulate metal relief for any plain using wave effet....i'm very busy with my repainted maps but i have time i will try this.

I would like to see the metal looks like this:

Here an exemple of the wave effet......ok in this pic i used it to simulate the hight temperatures effect caused by fire. But it could perfectly work on a plane skin if the resolution is enough high....

Perfect. Yes, these Iwo based Mustangs should look shiny, because they were factory fresh birds. They started operating out of Iwo shortly after the Marines landed on the island, so they really only saw combat for a matter of a few months. Not enough time time to get all ratty looking. That dust and volcanic ash was murder on those beautiful Rolls Royce/Packard engines, though. Jaypak and Redko...what a team.
