New computer, whacky IL2 Colors and no sound.. ideas?
#1

I've been playing IL2 since it came out with no real problems. I just got a new computer (quad core i7, ATI 4850 vid, 27" screen at 2560x1440). I did a fresh install of everything (windows XP + all updates, IL2 base to 4.09m then mods). It all works fine EXCEPT:
1. No in game sound at all. Works on the desktop
2. All the highlight colors are PURPLE! I tried to mess with the display gamma, but the in-game highlights are purple (plane shine mod problem maybe?)

Any ideas? Other than these glitches, it sure is sweet on the monster screen!

Hi Spinnetti Big Grin
I am sorry to hear that but a nice machine you've got Tongue
Try to open you IL-2 1946 set up and loook for video settings
then extensions and try to untick disable Vertex array extension .
Maybe that might help , other than that have no idea , ATI is a
little bit tricky Big Grin

When you say 4.09m + mods do you mean UP 1.8 or HSFX -V4???

I was deliberately vague on that because I've used them all without problems. The latest version is UP 1.8 right out of the box (also used HSFX v4 and UP 1.8 on my "Old" computer - that was only 20" and ATI x1600)

Thanks - the screen is glossy, and with settings maxed, it looks like I am watching a HD movie... I love it! (5 times the frame rates of my old machine too)... I'll give it a try...

Turns out the sound thing was just a default driver issue on the OEM install. Now just the colors left....

Spinnetti--
Following on what HolyGrail said--using vertex arrays caused the purple color with my 4890. I solved it in the conf.ini under the [Render_OpenGL] section by setting BOTH "Use Vertex Arrays" AND "Vertex Array Ext" to "0." I hope it works for you...

What ATI drivers are you using ??? I understand that the latest drivers are causing problems.

I have a i7, ATI 4890 and using drivers 9.6 and have no video problems playing with perfect water (except can not use Forest=3 or I get wierd results)

Thanks folks!

I had both "Use Vertex Arrays" AND "Vertex Array Ext" set to 1. I set both to zero, and it took care of it thanks!

As to the drivers, not sure which I'm on (this is an iMac, so whatever Apple provided)

Thanks for the quick help!

Here's a shot from my mega monitor.....
