Convert IL-2 Instruments from Metric to English?
#1

Is there anyway to switch altimeter, air speed indicator, etc. numbers from metric to english? I'm an IL-2 newbie (former CFS 1 and 2 driver). Learning to fly IL-2 is hard enough without having to do metric to English conversion on final.
Thanks, :?

Tab will switch the speed bar. As for the instrument panel in the cockpit, that is the way they were mad.

Got this from someone here at AAA.

Add this to the end of your config.ini file and it will display MPH and Feet as the default:

[Mods]
SpeedbarUnits=3
SpeedbarSpdKMH=1
SpeedbarSpdMPH=1
SpeedbarSpdKnots=1
SpeedbarAltMeters=1
SpeedbarAltFeet=1
SpeedbarTAS=1

This will also work for 4.09M.

Thanks for that, I often wondered about this Wink

Why do you want to do metric to English conversion on final in planes with metric gauges? Think metric instead.

How many cents to a dollar? Easy, 100. Ok, next question, how many centimeters to a meter? .......

Redwulf:

And how many planes have run out fuel because someone forgot to convert litres to gallons? At least one here in Canada in Alberta a few years back. Thinking metric, even in Canada which has been metric for years, still isn't easy and if you've not lived metric it's just about impossible I think.

Great days all.

Wouldn't have said it any better. Nothing wrong with wanting to use any measurement system you are comfortable with .

It worked but my mission details where in Russian after i install the mod section in the confi ini. I liked it other than that. What switch need to be moved so the details are in English.

Never experienced the russian language issue after adding to the conf.ini

Go here: (The link is inoperative)
This should fix the language problem you are having.

Hey, all,
Thanks for the help on the metric to english conversion.

But I still have a prob. As instructed, I went to my IL-2 folder and found the CONF and BLD CONF files. there was no CONf.INI file. I'm running XP and V4.08. The CONF file looked like the correct file so I added the following to that file at the very end. However, the lower left red airspeed, et all, are still metric. I rebooted. No joy. Any thoughts?

VideoSetupId=3
Water=1
Effects=1
ForceShaders1x=0
PolygonOffsetFactor=-0.15
PolygonOffsetUnits=-3.0

[Mods]
SpeedbarUnits=3
SpeedbarSpdKMH=1
SpeedbarSpdMPH=1
SpeedbarSpdKnots=1
SpeedbarAltMeters=1
SpeedbarAltFeet=1
SpeedbarTAS=1

mate..all you have to do is set a key for" toggle speed bar" and it will change from metric to standard to kias. it only takes a second.

I know this is probably a stupid question, but do you have the HUDConfig_v1 mod in your mods folder and is it activated (No "-" sign in front of the folder name)?

You can put that info in your CONF.INI all day and it won't work unless that mod is in your MODS folder and activated.

Hey all,
Thanks to all, especially to Heerdt. His suggestion could not have been simpler. I went into Controls, set a key for Toggle Speed Bar, and now I can toggle IAS and altitude through Meters, Feet, Knots and MPH. Uffda!!
