Ever wish that IL-2 could be used for a ground based simulation of a World War 2 campaign?
I am looking for guys interested in discussing both offline and online battles. This kind of IL-2 battle would allow for control of both ground forces and air power in real time. After that, we could build online ground-based campaigns.
Ground-based Battles
Moving Dogfight Server already exists and has the front line move from event to event based on the prevailing ground forces. Air to air combat has no direct effect on the movement of front lines. Air power can directly have influence on the ground battles raging below them with bombing and straffing.
I am looking for a way that players could place and direct ground forces, as well as fly. This would introduce a new mod of IL-2: Control of ground forces as well as air power for battle simulation.
Tactical Battles as a part of Strategic Campaigns
For example, think of the Battle of Normandy as a part of the Liberation of France.
Eventually, I would like to see a war created where strategic bombing of regional targets-such as rail yards, harbors, and factory complexes-would change the production and deployment of forces. A side defending strategic bombing as well as tactical bombing and staffing would be pressed to prioritize, such as the Battle of Britain.
A Start
For now, it would be just cool to be able to deploy and control ground forces in battle, and fly in it if ones chooses. To have the front line move during play and be able to direct formations of ground forces and aircraft to an area and target would be fun!
Keep in mind, this could be configured for both offline and online battle. It automatically implies both tactical and strategic decision making.
Let's discuss it.
How could we go about this?
What battles and features would you like to include in it?
