WIP skin for Finnish U-2
#1

I found a book called Polikarpov U-2/Po-2 by Martin Velek at the recent Scale Modelworld gathering and just had to do this skin of one of the aircraft illustrated in it.

This is Finnish U-2 VU-3 as seen during the summer of 1944 and is just the job for the U-2UT MOD from SAS.

As of yet I don't have any information regarding the scheme as applied to the wings, the information within the book only realy shows the starboard side of the aircraft.

I will probably have to resort to a little artistic licence to finish it. Apparently there were four aircraft captured and used by Finlands Air Force.

For the time being until more information becomes available the skin will use a pattern on the
wings that roughly follows the pattern of other Finnish biplanes of the time such as the Gauntlet.

Still needs some tweaking .

I agree with you on that Poltava, especially now we have a dedicated training version. The U-2 trainer from SAS comes with some lovely skins but there is always room for more.

Here are shots of the final pattern for this skin, it is now based on shots I have of a Gladiator and will have to do until more information becomes available for the authentic U-2 upper pattern.
