Really quiet .50cals, any idea how to fix?
#1

So...it seems my .50cal sounds are suddenly very, very quiet. Even after I replaced the sound files in the hopes that it would fix the issue, they are nearly impossible to hear. Anyone know what might be the cause of this?

Thanks

Open your prs. files and augment the spl level. Start with a small number and listen to the result each time. you find your prs. files in the preset folder which on its turn you find in the Files folder. You open them using wordpad. Try to find the appropriate prs. file for the weapon or sound you want to augment. In this case it must be "weapon.MGunBrowning50s".

Good luck.

Well here's a wrinkle for ya. I have HSFX installed and my .50 cals are quiet also. I like the ones in 1.2 so I copied the PRESETS and SAMPLES folders and placed them in my Files folder in the HSFX install I have. The .50s were back to being loud. So, I took out all the other files in both folders that I did not want, but when I went back into the game, my .50s were quiet again. That made me think that there is either another file that the .50s are using or another file AUGMENTING the sounds of the .50s.

This is interesting. A while ago I switched all of new gun sounds back to IL2 default, and they are also weirdly quiet.

Well I did some fiddling and found out something interesting.

The Browning.50 sound files are NOT the sounds you hear when you fire your .50 cals in the P-47, P-51 or just about any other American fighter aircraft equipped with the famed M2 Browning .50 cal Machinegun. The sound file that is used is mgun_rear_12.wav.

I found this out when I decided bring some of the 1.2 sounds into HSFX 4.1. I didn't like the fact that my .50 cals were so quiet so I pulled all the sounds from 1.2 and then proceeded to weed out the ones I did not need. I kept the Browning.50cal sounds thinking, "Okay, these are the ones I need." Right? That would make sense, wouldn't it? I mean, the American fighters like the P-38, P-47 and P-51 were euipped with Browning .50 cals, right? Of course they were. Well, obviously that is not the case with IL2. If you want your .50 cals to rattle when you pull the trigger, you need to use mgun_rear_12.wav and the preset weapon.mgun_13_800.

Ain't this a kick in the head?

Yes, it's a kick in the head, but it's normal, I can't know everything and even I still learn something from time to time.

Thank you.

Well whatya know, it worked. I would have never thought to look in a different .prs file to find, you know, .50cal sounds. You'd think .50cal sounds would be under .50cals, but that would make sense. We can't have any of that.
Sounds are working great now, I cranked up the spl levels from 115 or 120 to 165, and the .50cals on every fighter I've tested are much better.
Thanks for the help!
