Static.ini objects vanishing!
#1

Hi all:

I'm hoping someone out there can me...

I've been moving my objects around in the static.ini file so the objects are in groups. I've done this countless times before but have run into a bit of a problem - I'm starting to lose objects!

Here's three groups of text for three objects right out of my static.ini file:

[buildings.House$Luft_Wooden_Hangar]
Title Luft_Wooden_Hangar
MeshLive 3do/Buildings/Pacific/Luft_Wooden_Hangar/live.sim
MeshDead 3do/Buildings/Pacific/Luft_Wooden_Hangar/dead.sim
AlignToLand 0
Body RockBig
Panzer 0.40 //0.50

[buildings.House$TypeA]
Title TypeA
MeshLive 3do/Buildings/Airdrome/TypeA/live.sim
MeshDead 3do/Buildings/Airdrome/TypeA/dead.sim
AlignToLand 0
Bdy WoodMiddle
Panzer 2.1

//========
[****]
Title Huge round roof Closed
//=========

[buildings.House$RussiaKievHangar_Lrge]
Title RussiaKievHangar_Lrge
MeshLive 3do/Buildings/Russia/Kiev/Hangar_Lrge/live.sim
MeshDead 3do/Buildings/Russia/Kiev/Hangar_Lrge/dead.sim
Body RockBig
Panzer 0.5 //0.1

The first two objects are mods from LAL_Rone and CanonUK. The last one is an original.

The Luft_Wooden_Hangar and the RussiaKievHangar_Lrge both show up in FMB. The TypeA gets missed as you use the cursor keys to scroll throught the objects. If you stop scrolling after hitting the down-cursor key one more time after the Luft_Wooden_Hangar is chosen, it shows as the last object on the ground and the last object in the .mis file. If you go to the RussiaKievHangar_Lrge and scroll back one using the up-cursor key, then it shows as the last object on the ground and the last object in the .mis file.

I checked the path for the TypeA and everything is normal.

I have used this object - only for the purposes of moving it into position in my static.ini file - but nonetheless I have seen this object on the ground.

This may not be the first time I've run into this. As I've been scrolling through the objects I've noticed several instances of objects that have been skipped before; I've just never bothered to track them down before now.

I could go back to a backed up copy of the static.ini file but that won't solve anything if i try to move things around and lose them again. Also, I hang my head in shame, I haven't backed up the file since I started to move these objects around and have now moved something like three or four hundred! I've spent somewhere in the neighbourhood of 20 hours getting things in order and don't particularly want to have to do this much work again.

Has anyone else run into this? Can someone help me out here?

Thanking you in advance...

Great days all.

Hi all:

Ok, a bit of an update...

I took the TypeA from the backed up copy of the static.ini file I had lying around. I copied and pasted that entry right over the entry in my f$#*ed up static.ini and everything is now working. Here's the new entry:

[buildings.House$TypeA]
Title TypeA
MeshLive 3do/Buildings/Airdrome/TypeA/live.sim
MeshDead 3do/Buildings/Airdrome/TypeA/dead.sim
AlignToLand 0
Body WoodMiddle
Panzer 2.1

Can anyone see a difference? I can't, but the damn thing is working and have this object back. Now, to go and check on the other missing objects...

One thing this doesn't address is - what happened in the first place? Can anyone shed some light on this?

Great days all.

Body WoodMiddle in the second post is right. In the first post you forgot the 'o' in Body.

AHA!!! That's what's done it! So, that solves that problem.

Now, however, I've gone through all 1800+ objects and found a few more that don't show up. Here's the blocks of text for two objects that appear to have all the syntax correct as well as spelling.

[buildings.House$hitching_post2]
Title hitching_post2
MeshLive 3do/Buildings/Egypt/village_stuff/hitching_post2/mono.sim
MeshDead 3do/Buildings/Egypt/village_stuff/hitching_post2/dead.sim
Body RockMiddle
Panzer 0.12

[buildings.House$Crater250]
Title Crater250
MeshLive 3do/Buildings/Airdrome/Crater250/live/mono.sim
MeshDead 3do/Buildings/Airdrome/Crater250/live/mono.sim
IgnoreShadowData
AlignToLand 1
AddHeightLive -2.57
AddHeightDead -2.57
Body RockBig
Panzer 9.96

The path exists right to very end with, in the case of the hitching post, both 'mono.sim' and 'dead.sim'; and in the case of the crater, 'mono.sim'.

Further in my forays into missing objects I find I'm missing two objects altogether:

[buildings.House$Flag_ArmeeRouge]
Title Flag_ArmeeRouge
MeshLive 3do/Buildings/Pacific/Flag_ArmeeRouge/live.sim
MeshDead 3do/Buildings/Pacific/Flag_ArmeeRouge/dead.sim
AlignToLand 0
Body WoodSmall
Panzer 0.05

[buildings.House$receiver]
Title Chain_Home_Receiver
MeshLive 3do/Buildings/Airdrome/receiver/live.sim
MeshDead 3do/Buildings/Airdrome/receiver/dead.sim
AlignToLand 0
Body RockBig
Panzer 2.50

These two have their path missing. In the case of the Flag_ArmeeRouge, the path exists as far as "3do/Buildings/Pacific". For the Chain_Home_Receiver, the path exists as far as "3do/Buildings/Airdrome". both then are missing their object folders. I've searched all my mod folders - old and new - and can't find these anywhere. Can someone point me in the right direction to getting these?

Thanks all again.

Great days all.
