Can IL-2 Run Well from an External Hard Drive?
#1

Recently, I purchased a 1 TB iomega Prestige Hard Drive discounted for only $99.00 (USA). That is over one trillion bytes of storage-what a deal!

Does anyone know for certain that IL-2 will run from an external hard drive with absolutely no decrease in performance?

I don't know about absolutely no decrease, but I've been running IL2 from my external for awhile now, and it seems to be working just fine. it takes a little longer to load things, but that's to be expected. once the game gets started, it seems to be pretty much the same.

Thanks,

It must be that because the RAM in the PC is still going to store IL-2 data for immediate use, there should not be a performance hit, correct?

The only problem that I have noticed is a momentary hesitation or stutter When I host while using it. This is cause by the computer requesting updates from the external and it feeding it out, or updated the game with this new information . How bad this will be depends on the speed of the external hard drive and the amount of memory you have. Small memory will need to be updated more frequently. When I host using it I get a split second stutter every five minutes or so.

would there be an advantage/disadvantage using a mobil rack with bootable HD solely for 1946
no extra software- just xp and 1946 w. mods and stuff for tuning the sim?

one pc -> double for workstation and simpit (w. 2x keyboards, 2x mice, 2x screen) so sim would not suffer work install

just swap disk for flying - direct SATA connection no usb

anybody tried this or recomendations ?

this or similar what i had i mind :
